Mine was made on 3/30 a Friday, got it on a Wed 2 days short of 4 weeks later. Really like it for the most part, over 5K miles so far.

Interesting, it appears at least one dealer in the St. Louis area is refusing to take deposits on the cars. They are making a list of those interested and whenever one actually GETS to the lot, they start making calls. Using the salesman's exact words, "We were making way more enemies than friends."

Interesting. I'll bet they will start taking deposits if people start camping out in front of the dealer waiting for the truck to pull into the parking lot!

Why would a dealer not take a deposit?! This was the only way I could get a Blue Sport MT, and every dealer in Atlanta offered to take a deposit for me until they could get one in stock (or via. a trade with another dealer.) It's win-win for the dealer; if someone does not follow though with the purchase, the dealer keeps $500 for making no effort, and they can sell the reserved car to someone else with 2-7 days.

I think non-refundable deposits are the de facto standard. If the deposit were refundable "with no questions asked," then there would be no incentive for the buyer to buy the car from that dealer. A buyer could put down deposits at 10 dealers, buy the car from the first dealer that gets a unit on their lot, and get refunds from all the other dealers. I am sure any dealer would refund a deposit for a customer if the dealer ordered the wrong color or options, or for some other reason that's not the buyer's fault. However, most dealers would no refund a deposit if a customer went with one of their competitors, or simply decided that they did not want the car.

At Mohawk Honda in Schenectady, NY, my minimum deposit of $500 was fully refundable. Mohawk's award winning salesman Mike Bennice assured me that if I did not like the vehicle for any reason, my deposit would be refundable. In upstate New York they can't keep these vehicles in stock. They sell like hot cakes! They seem to be advertising their Accord model pretty heavily and it has been quite a while since I saw any advertising for the Fit. I think the Fit just sells itself!

In Ontario, I made my deal for a fiji blue sport at on May 31/07- I added a clause in the contract that they had 10 days to find one and have it ready for me. It wasn't looking good for the first few days and I threatened to pull out.

They found one and had it ready by June 8. (the day after it arrived)
They called 3 lots in a 75km radius and none of them wanted to give up their FIT. Glad they found one who would!!!

Update -

I've now been given a revised build date of June 19, 2007 and was told it would probably arrive about six weeks from that date...so I'm hoping I have my car by Aug. 1 (which will be three full months from order date).

How could the "build date" be delayed 6 weeks?! Was this an miscalculation by the dealer, or a backlog at the factory?!

I found at least one Red Fit Sport MT in Georgia. If you could find one elewhere, your current dealer might refund your deposit, if you pressed them hard enough (and if you point out that they can probably sell that car to someone else before it arrives on the lot.)

delivery

I guess i got lucky on mine. I called every dealership in las vegas and they were all out of stock. I recalled one of the dealers saying they had some coming in about a week or two. Drove down and dropped a deposit and 2 days laters, my Fit arrives!

My dealer in NJ who was cool said 500 buck deposit was non refundable to get exact car I wanted. They had similar cars on lot that were not the same color, so I think it's somewhat reasonable considering the effort they go thru to get the car from who knows were. But I could be wrong, never really done this before. All things considered they were pretty up front.

The build date was pushed back by one week. The arrival of the car at the dealership is expected six weeks after the build date.

Still Waiting

We put a $500 deposit down on a White Sport AT on Sunday (4/29/07). We were told by the dealer that the order might make it in "by the end of the monthly ordering cycle." Our impression was that if it did not make the April order, it might not get ordered until the end of May! We have checked a couple of times but have not yet been given any definitive update. I have a date circled (6/25/07) to contact the dealer again for a delivery update.

Our Honda dealer has said they do not get into "build dates" but should be able to supply and ETA soon. At the same time, the sales manager indicated that we might have our new Fit "within four to six weeks." That would put in in the 3 month range from deposit to delivery. Sounds about average for those of us who didn't have the good fortune to have one drop into their laps.

Still jazzed about the Fit.

Been eyeing the Fit for a little over 3 years (JDM)..
put $ down on June 9th.. It's in on the 15th...(I picked it up on the 18th)..
not bad.. considering I want SSM Sport in Manual..
(and yes, this is the only one come on the truck that day)

so I guess this one is just meant to be mine from the day it left JDM land

I have a red AT sport. Place $500 deposit in August 2006, and got the car in Jan 2007. I have waited for 5 months!

I have been getting one of these, "your car is coming, it's in denver, no today it's in cleveland, well today it's in detroit". kind of thing. Like there is some sort of random truck driving across the USA with the car. I don't really get the process. Am I being scammed?
