A/C makes car lurch in 1st?

I have a Base MT and notice if I try to accelerate in 1st with AC, the car doesn't just act a bit weaker (what I'd expect), but seems to go nowhere then suddenly lurch forward--it's not smooth at all. It's like the drive-by-wire gas pedal has lost its intelligence. Without A/C the car accelerates smoothly. The lurch reaction reminds me in how my vehicles from the old days acted when they had air leaks or blocked fuel tube or carbs. I know our engines are small but this is unpleasant; isn't drive-by-wire supposed to eliminate this kind of thing? Anyone else have this response?

I've noticed this too. I have a Sport A/T and it has been a learning experience how to make this a smooth transition. I've never owned
anything but American made cars - I'd say from the love I feel for my Fit, I'll never buy American again. Someone on the board assured me that this normal for the Fit - on Tuesday it has been 3 weeks with the new car and I am loving it! Getting a good feel for all it does and those little things that makes it special.

Once you get past the little lurch - it is all smooth and all powerful!

I also own a A/T sport shift Fit. They are correect it almost feels like a lurch but all it is,is the lag on he engine when the compressor kicks in,its not a big issue there again its the issue of the little engine

obviously this seems more pronounced to me with passengers,I also tend to compensate by disengaging the ac until I am in 3rd ,and recirculating the cabin air while at stops.

Those are good work-arounds stevarooney. As long as every else is facing the same thing i can live with it. I do think the drive-by-wire should adjust for this, so i do consider it a design flaw. H8ton, of course no one can magically make a small engine accelerate quickly with a/c load; but there's no reason it can't be made to accelerate slowly-but-smoothly.

Can this be due to the transmission's torque converter suddenly unlocking for better offline performance?

MTs don't have torque converters do they?

Ah, sorry, I thought you had an AT. Could it also be an abrupt change with the VTEC changeover--when the other valve opens creating a surging effect associated with more airflow.
