wow...you can actually get real accesories in other countries! Im getting my fit in "no more than 3 weeks" and so far all the accessories are pretty worthless. think honda might ever offer an armrest or a roof console, and can stuff like that be installed later on?

 

Australian manual for the Jazz which has info for a lot of other countries in it (but not US) says that a rear bike rack is not recommended and that roof mounted racks for bikes are available. As for height clearance obviously this would be an issue.

With trailor brakes you can go 800kg towing according to the book. Thats a lot for a bit over 1,000kg car.

 

I'm sure you will be able too. I once saw a DC2 towing a small 2-3 person sale boat

 

When I've seen recommendations against rear-mounted bike racks, they've been referring to hatch/trunk-mounted or glass-mounted ones (which I totally understand).

What I'm looking to do is use a hitch-mounted rack, which avoids contact with any part of the car, other than the hitch.

Of course, there are those that will argue that it reduces your crash protection from the rear, limits your rear view, etc... but that would be the case with any vehicle towing anything.

 

I would not be surprised given the sue happy nature of the U.S. legal services industry that in the U.S. Honda will offer nothing and say nothing in regards to towing.

Hopefully, if that's the case, somebody like Hidden Hitch will offer a nice little reciever hitch.

I called theCustomer Relations folks at Honda and they say no arm rest, no roof console, and no towing.

 

Does anyone know of a Fit Sport's towing capabilities? I'm purchasing one and need to tow a small open equipment trailer about 2500 miles. I found a bolt-on 2000# tow bar, but I'm wondering how it might handle towing a 1000 lb load. Thanks for any info!

 

1000lb? Not very well. You're talking about 109 horses pulling 3500+lb.

The Fit's towing capacity probably isn't listed anywhere - because it's not intended to tow anything, ever.

I wouldn't burden the Fit with more than ~500lb tops, including passengers.

 

From your owners manual, "Your vehicle is not designed to tow a trailer. Attempting to do so can void your warranties."

 

2500 lbs trailer? Get a nice v6 tacoma!
maximum weight carrying capacity is 850 lbs, according to the owners manual.

I have ordered and installed a Curt hitch (www.etrailer.com) on my Fit. I may tow a small utility trailer with: a riding lawn mower; a 4-wheeler; or my 250cc Honda scooter on it - on occasion.

I have a hitch on my '89 CRX (92 hp) and I've towed aluminum bass boats, 4x8' U-Haul trailers, a small cargo trailer, etc., with it. I never had any issues. I moved 180 miles, one way, with the U-Haul trailer, making a total of 4 round trips several years back. The car ran and pulled fine. You just have to take your time, and plan for hills like you do anytime you are towing anything.

However, like has been said previously, HONDA DOES NOT RECOMMEND IT AND IT COULD VOID YOUR WARRANTY.

 

don't do it. buy a car with a bigger engine to tow that much. trust me.

 

Yeah, I'd avoid towing with the Fit. We're going to use our Subaru Forester for towing when needed. It can tow up to 2000 lbs (250lb tongue weight).

 

Buy the Fit.

Rent a truck to tow stuff.

Problem solved!

 

My father had a 84 civic wagon. He towed everything with it, boats, camper trailer, hundreds of trips to the dump with a trailer full of crap.

I purchased and installed a Curt hitch (www.etrailer.com) on my Fit a while back.

The other day I had the "opportunity" to haul a Honda FourTrax to get it serviced by the local Honda cycle shop. Towing was very uneventful, and actually fun!! I pulled it about 15 miles each way.

how slow was the car with all the extra weight?

 

Pulled just fine at 65 mph on the Interstate. Just as smooth as it could be! I did monitor my water temperature (I have a ScanGauge II) and going to get it my water temp was 179 degrees. Pulling the trailer, empty, it went up to 181 degrees. With the 4-wheeler on it, it went up to 183 degrees.

For reference, at idle, when stopped in town for traffic lights and such, it will go up to 204 degrees.

Very little difference!!
