Towing with the Fit????

I searched the forums, but didn't find anything about towing capacity of the U.S. spec Fit. While I know it won't be able to tow much with its small engine, I'm curious what (if any) weight trailer the frame can handle. I would only want to tow a SeaDoo (probably 500 lbs). My '95 Accord has a limit of 1000 lbs, but it has a 147 hp engine and is a bigger car with better brakes, etc. Though I don't need to tow very often, the lack of any towing ability could be a deal breaker. My old '85 Accord with an 86 hp engine did okay with the SeaDoo behind it, so I'm not terribly worried about the engine output but am concerned about frame strength and hitch availability. Can any Fit owners in other parts of the world give any insight?

Thanks

Excellent question!!! Also.., cars in this class; what is the norm for towing rate? Does the towing rate include full passenger load or do we minus that out?
Would it be more beneficial with manually tranny to tow?

Auto is preferable to manual for towing. In fact autos are often rated to tow heavier loads than the same car in manual.

This class of car can only tow a small box trailer. The Honda Jazz manual lists the maximum tow rate at 450kg or 992lb for both manual and auto 1.3L and 1.5L. Maximum load on the vehicle coupling is 70kg or 154lbs. If the trailer has its own brakes then it can tow more (up to 1,000kg or 2,205lbs).

Towing rates are the same wether the car is just carrying a driver or a full load. Low torque means small cars aren't ideal for towing. A diesel or V8 is made for the job.

Can the Fit pull a trailer?

I was wondering if I will be able to pull a small trailer with my new Fit. Nothing of any size, just something to haul the lawn mower around. I'm pretty sure that I saw a trailer hitch listed on a UK site as an option. The one that I saw had a a fixed ball on the hitch. I would prefer the receiver type. Any Jazz owners ever pull a trailer?

My Fit user manual says that the Fit is not designed to haul trailers.

Looking at that hitch, I would say Honda is saying, no you can't tow anything with the fit. I've never seen anything that would hook up to that kind of hitch.

Yes, I guess it does look a little aroused.

Can tow 450kg and more if the trailer has its own brakes.

What kind of lawnmower? With all the seats folded down and a tarp or some liner laid down inside, you could probably transport most non-ride-on lawnmowers INSIDE the Fit.

Now, if Honda USA is saying "no, you can't tow with a Fit", and you put one on anyway ... not to tow, but to carry a bike rack, will they still void your warranty?

Please note: a roof rack is not an option, due to overhead clearance issues in the parking deck.

If a motorcycle can tow a small trailer, then I am sure the Honda Fit can tow one. Whether it is "legal" or not is another issue.

Already plan to use the magic seats to haul all of the vacation baggage. It'll already be packed full... thus the need to carry the bikes outside.

not 100% but some of the UK Jazz have a turbo diesel. that whould give it nessassary torque to pull a trailor.

450Kg... Does anyone know if it will be supported in the US? How much weight with trailer brakes?
