Fit rated most efficient small wagon at fueleconomy.gov

Did a brief search to see if this was posted already and didn't see it...so here it is!

Most and Least Fuel Efficient Cars

rates the fit as the most fuel efficient small wagon. Note that they are using official EPA revised mileage numbers for all cars. The fit's new numbers are:
MT: 28/34
AT: 27/35

which makes the fit about 3 times better than the Lamborghini Murcielago

Thanks for locating this information! Am scheduled to pick-up TW Sport/AT in mid July. Still very excited about the FIT even after reading some of the horror stories about AT MPG reported in this forum.

It (the government fuel economy report) does help put a number of things things in context:
  1. The FIT is a SMALL WAGON. Despite the all of its sporty attributes and potential for performance enhancing modifications, the FIT should be thought of as a vehicle that can haul people and belongings from place to place, safely and economically.
  2. The FIT will never match a Prius in fuel economy. It is however, considerably less expensive to purchase than a Prius and more likely to achieve a straightforward "out of the box" savings in fuel costs for an average owner given that difference in purchase price.
  3. When this rating is considered along side the government crash test (five star) and the other accolades it has received, the FIT--yes, even the AT--is, on paper, a top notch subcompact.
  4. Besides fuel costs, a FIT should save an average owner a tidy sum in insurance costs over the Lamborghini Murcielago.
