Unusual noise, try this.

Odd noise effect, keep both front windows up, fully lower both rear windows, drive 55 mph or more. I get a very loud low frequency "thumping". Rear view mirrow shakes.
Cross winds seem to affect intensity.

Try this, I'd like to hear if its common to the FIT.

You should try it in a CR-V... 10 times worst.

I noticed it the first day I picked up my Fit. My cousin who came with was like "wtf is that!?"

Just normal. I heard that the Mugen window visors reduce it SOMEWHAT

That is inherent in the design of the car. It's essentially cavitation. If you think that the Fit is bad.......you should go take a ride in the Toyota Previa minivan from around 1995ish area or so......the one with the dual sun roofs. That thing could permanently damage your hearing very quickly. There are many vehicles with 2-15's that can't touch that van at 50mph. Cure: slow down or keep the windows up. I heard the frequency becomes inaudible at roughly 332mph. Let me know if that's true or not.....

No, really; modifying the exterior aerodynamics is the only way to change that effect without changing speed. Ventshade kind of accessories tended to hamper the effects on other vehicles.

That's normal. I hate it tho, so that's why I never roll down rear windows on the highway. I think it's because the fit starts to act like a parachute (the parachute being the hatch door, and air entering from both sides)

OMG - this happen to me today coming home from work. I accidentally hit the back window on the drivers side down button thinking it was the front. I have to use a card to get in and out of the parking garage where I work. I am driving down the road and realize that something is not right! I had my CD player thumping and between that and the wind pressure thought my head was going to explode. I thought the car was going to explode too! Then realized the back window was down and once it was up it stopped! That is a strange sensation!

i just crack the front window a bit and it seems to fix the noise

It's the aerodynamics and air drag of course. This happens to most cars.

Resonance volume... you just have to have the right opening size and wind to tickle it on most vehicles. I suspect it is easier to hit for vehicles with larger interior volumes.

Yea, I discovered that quirk of the car. I agree that it is probably some kind of cavitation, like a mild vacuum being created as air whooshes past the back windows with no air coming in the front windows to keep the pressure inside the car equalized.

I actually prefer to keep the back windows open whenever the front windows are open for the opposite reason. It gives the incoming air somewhere to go, rather than up my nose.

I've discovered that having the front windows slightly lower than the back windows at any level pretty much eliminates this...it is when the backs are open lower than the front that you get that horrid resonance.

I think it's just yet another Honda design feature to save weight and energy - a speed sensitive subwoofer that takes zero engine power and adds no weight at all to the car. Way to go Honda!!!

This happens in my mothers pilot as well as my Fit. An easy solution is crack the two front windows a little.

Even more annoying, I can't test it. My back right window doesn't go down. At all.

But my mom's car (Pilot) does this as well.
