Fits in Europe
Fits in Europe
In May I was visiting the UK on business, and I am now in Northern Italy near Milan. I have seen very few Honda Jazz cars in either country. Here there are lots of small cars running around because gasoline is over $6 a gallon and many of the streets are too narrow for a Hummer H3 to navigate. I am driving a rented two door hatchback Lancia Medallion which is smaller than my wife's Fit. I am surprised at how well this Lancia drives.
Here customers can choose from small comparable cars from Lancia, Fiat, Citroen, Toyota, Mitsubitshi, Skoda, and Mercedes Benz just to name a few popular brands. Many of these cars are diesel powered. The highways here are in excellent condition. The Autostrada are toll roads and are as smooth as glass. Our interstate highways are in terrible condition. One way to upgrade our aging highways would be for the U.S. government to levy a three dollar a gallon gasoline tax, which would be dedicated to repairing the interstate highway system. And, the tax will encourage the American public to trade in their Suburbans and F-150 pickup trucks for more fuel efficient cars like the Fit. This would also encourage the other European manufacturers to enter the U.S. market with smaller cars. The Smart car is coming to the U.S. next year. Although it's a two seat micro car, it will be interesting to see if the U.S. public is really interested in saving fuel and saving the environment.

almost every (major) auto manufacturer has positioned an automobile in the Jazz/Fit class. We had a Renault *Clio* for a number of years as our in-town ride. I'm now looking at Yaris or Jazz 1.2 liter. We have an '89 Jeep Cherokee which gets about 20mpg and a '04 Porsche 996 cabriolet which gets about 22mpg and uses 98 octane gasoline which is closer to $7 a gallon (but will do 150mph with the top down).
