Is this dangerous for the fit's engine?

I have a stock Milano Red fit. i call it Mr. fit just like how people call me mr. him and im only 18. but anyways i live in florida and when i get on the highway or cut into a lane or pass somebody, my car revs all the way up to 4 and 5. it does this about 5 times a day. it stays at and 5 or 6 for about 5 seconds before shifting up. would that hurt the engine? it sounded like the engine was trying really hard because there was a rasp sound. Is there any mods that will dramastically increases its horsepower?

It might be a little engine, but remember, it's a Honda, high revving is in its blood. It runs in the family. If you think it's revving to high or you're not comfortable with it going that high, back off the gas a little, and it should drop into gear sooner. Either that, or start using those nifty little paddles that you auto tranny guys have....they have a neat rev limiter so you can't rev the thing to the moon.

You should be fine - like another poster says, it's a Honda. If you just got your car, you might want to take it easy until it is broken in (@600 miles per the owners manual.)

Are you by chance running in 'S' mode, using the paddles? If you are, try running in 'D' and see if your problem goes away. 'S' mode using the paddles is manual shift mode and the car won't shift by itself until it near redline.

There are several modes to run in with the AT - be sure to read the manual on the D and S modes of the transmission, and how the paddles function in each mode if you haven't already......

as long as you maintain it with oil changes and proper oil levels, you can do it all day.

Amen. Sounds wonderful when revved like crazy.

Seriously though, other than turbo or s/c, you won't get enough bump in power from mods to really raise the HP.

only 4 or 5k? I hit 4k all the time in first and second gear :P If I'm accelerating hard I usually don't shift until 5500 or so... torque curve tops out at 4900 doesn't it?

that rasp sound is probably the vtec kicking in.. on the MT it's noticeable especially in 2nd gear (can feel it also.. not huge but it's there).

LMAO I thought I was the only one who said "Asshat" I'm glad someone else is utilizing the word. lol
If you treat the car good and take care of it with regular maintenance, it should last you quite a long time.

I'm >30yo and drive conservatively these days. However I have noticed on occasion than it sticks at 4-5k sometimes, and doesn't want to drop rpms after a manuever for several seconds. I either click the paddle or bump into N and coast and reengage. My previous automatic car had no such behavior.

No, 4-5k rpms is not going to kill the motor...
