Fit availability in southern CA?

My sister is buying a new car and asked my opinion on the Fit. So I did the usual tour through the honda website, Edmunds, and various forums including this one. Its seems the consensus is that these cars are in short supply and sell for above MSRP due todealer markups.

I'll be visiting her in 2 weeks and to help her buy a car. Just trying to get a sense for the current situation. Any recent experiences?

BTW, she is thinking about a storm silver Sport AT. Anyone getting the 07s for invoice or less since the new 08s are almost here?

Thanks in advance.

I bought my Fit Sport 5sp MT in June 07, so I don't know if this info still applies, but I think there are more Fits in dealer stock now. I was told it would take about 12 days for mine to arrive, but it showed up in only 3 days. Of course, it is not in their interest to tell you that they have plenty in stock; they want to make you think they are still in extremely short supply. That way, you will less inclined to try to get them to lower the price.

Also, I would suggest requesting quotes for a Fit on the Internet. I did that and I heard from five different dealers in my area. One dealer, Long Beach Honda, tried to hustle me, so I dumped them, but Honda World, of Downey, CA, was honest with me from the get go, and they got my business and respect.

You usually wind up dealing with the fleet manager, or someone like that. Just be sure that you don't fall for the "additional dealer markup" or whatever the deliver calls it when he tries to get you to pay for a bunch of expensive options that you don't need. For example, one dealer wanted to charge me $400 for wheel locks. I refused, and bought a set at Pep Boys for under $30.

Finally, if you are buying an 07 model, I would hope you could get quite a significant break on the price, since we are so close to the 08 model year. Hope this helps

P.S. I highly recommend buying the Sport over the Base model, and buying Honda floor mats, no matter which model you choose.
