Needless to say, I'm fairly disappointed, and $1500 lighter in my wallet.

My driving habits haven't changed at all since my previous car, a '00 Civic 5-speed. My old civic lasted around 80-90k on the original clutch before needing changing.

Anybody else have to replace their original clutch yet?

 

Did you feel it graduallly deteroirate?

My car is around 31600, so close to your number. I don't feel anything wrong with it. Old civics do rev lower due to their gearing, so it's possible you had bad habits before, but didn't get punished for them. I'll keep a watch for my car's clutch, although I drive less b/c I take transit and bike now.

 

I've got 42,300 mi on mine and clutch is just fine so IDK thats interesting though Sorry to hear about that man

There was no gradual difference. I believe it is simply the nature of hydraulic-assisted clutches: they provide grip up until they are worn out completely.

My clutch was gripping fine, I shifted, and when I released the clutch it did about 80% slipping with 20% acceleration.

The whole deal cost me $1500 from a honda dealership.

 

do you have a lot of mods on your fit that changed the power substantially?

 

My guess: How often do you downshift to let the cars engine slow you down? Be honest.

Brakes are cheaper than clutches... use them

 

I have an a-spec cold air intake, so no power gains.

I have about 50K right now on mine and I really abuse this car in a fun way. I've SCCA raced it about a dozen times, race on on-ramps, high rev downshift on off-ramps, race up through the gears quite a bit. Long story short, I am suprised my clutch still grabs well. Its still tighter than my moms RSX with 40K on it.

 

I'm jealous! It might break soon though... mine was as tight as brand new up until it let go.

 

Are u sure it burnt? Sometimes the clutch fluid leaked. I guess if tehy charged you money, they must've seen a missing clutch.

 

Why wasn't the clutch replaced under warranty?

Clutch is a wear item, just as brake pads are. If Honda even thought about replacing the clutch under warranty that would put me in shock.

Any other dealer would have said what I just said.

 

Wow, here I've been driving around not being all that easy on the clutch thinking it would be repaired for free. Ouch.

 

if your driving long distances you wont be needing to shift gears often depending on traffic. if your always in stop and go traffic your clutch will burn up faster.

 

I know this is an old thread, but my clutch was replaced under warranty in September of 2008. My 07 Sport had 85,000kms (53,000 miles) when it happened. The clutches in Canada are covered by a 5 year / 100,000kms warranty if it's a manufacturing defect.

I have a long commute to work with few to no hills. The clutch problem happened over a weekend. We went to a wedding in a very hilly area, and on the way back the clutch started slipping going up hills.

I brought it into the dealer, the dealer said I abused it, I told him off. I finally told them to rip it open and if it wasn't a warranty repair, I'd pay the labour, I'd tow the car in pieces and I'd fix it myself.

When they took the pressure plate off, almost 1/2 of the fingers were loose. The clip that keeps them in place popped out. So under normal loads it was fine, but as soon as it was pushed in a hilly area it would slip.

So it was replaced under warranty and the service manager was quite apologetic. They replaced the flywheel, pressure plate and friction disc. The friction disc had very little wear, other than a few hot spots due to slippage.

 

hey how hard is it do yourself and how much are the parts ???

 

Way to Go! I get too many dealers blaming me for their BS. But then again I have two cars. The hot rod needed a new clutch after 11k miles. The second is on its way.
