AC removal ?

Howdy everyone, newbie here. Just received my new Fit Sport MT about 3 weeks ago and was wondering if there would be any advantages to removing the AC unit ? Living in South Central Alaska I don't think I've even ever used it in my '06 Silverado. Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance.

Using A/C (even with the heat on) in the winter helps de-fog your windows ALOT faster than with just using the defroster.

If you really want a Fit with no A/C...just buy the Canadian DX version.

I agree. It may not get hot in AK, but I'm sure there are plenty of cool moist days where AC is required to prevent fog and moisture build up.

Also keep in mind that the there is absolutely no drag on the engine when it is off. Without the electric clutch engaged, it is just a free spinning pulley.

On your silverado, anytime you set the dial to "Windshield" or "windshield and feet" the AC kicked on whether you knew it or not. I think the Fit is the same way.

hearing that you remove the a/c compressor put less stress on the pulleys.. but in cali its hot here so its a keeper

The only reason to remove the A/C system if you're never going to use it is for a little less weight, but it won't make much of a difference. Might as well keep it in.

Hmmm, can't say I've ever used the AC as the defroster in any of my vehicles especially up here. Sounds counter intuitive.

The AC turns on to help dry the air when the air selector is in the defogger positon (and split defogger/foot position).
I think you can disconnect the wire from the back of the air selector switch (not the AC switch) to disable the feature and buy a little mpg. Useful if you drive around with your defogger on all the time like here on the wet west coast. If you need extra drying help on a really wet day, just push the manual AC button.

Seriously though...it clears up your window alot faster! Then turn it off once the windows are cleared up. It dries out the air inside your car.
