hi all
just noticed that my oil life is down to 90% from 100% last week. that was quick. any1 else had this "problem"
also my muffler look really brownish (around the pipe). i know it will eventually change its color but that was quick.

Seems odd to me - I'm at 1200+ km, and 100% oil life.

you said you've had your car for 3 weeks? how many total miles are on the car? if there were a lot on the car before you got it that might be why?

Maybe the M.M. takes into accoint this is a new car and breaks in? That explains why the oil might darken up, but I don't know if the CPU is smart enough to take that into consideration. I really don't remember. I do remember it drops faster than expected the first months I drove the car.

Bizarre. Mine's three weeks old, 450 miles, and still at 100% -- I'm thinking the opposite, it should have ticked down some. If it "used" 10% of its life that would put the first oil change around 4000 miles.

*My* concern is crappy gas mileage. 26 MPG so far. But my work is also only 3 miles away so that might have something to do with it (it never really warms all the way up to best operating temperature).

Haven't taken any long trips yet.

oic, do you push your car alot or take it to or near redline often? that's the only other explanation i can think of since it's supposed to count engine revs right?

My understanding of the oil life indicator is 90% means somewhere between 90% and 100%, so the minute you drive the car off the lot it should drop to 90%. I wouldn't be too worried about it...

X2. Wait and see how soon it gets to 15%, mine gets there about every 6500 miles. Maybe yous got alot of "idle time" during its pre delivery inspection.

i don't believe its the same for every fit out there, i also don't think one should take this oil life thing seriously, i had this same "issue", but trust me it'll stay at 90% for awhile before going down again, atleast thats how mine was.

my manual says "all engines consume oil as part of their normal operation...the amount of oil consumed depends on how the vehicle is driven, the climate and road conditions. The rate of oil consumption can be up to 1 litre per 1000km/625 miles. Consumption is likely to be higher when the engine is new."

So if I were you I would check with the dealer, just to make sure, but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I don't know how you get such crappy mileage though. 26mpg? are you towing a trailer? did you leave the handbrake on?? with the a/c and electric window demister on most of the time, in stop start traffic, with headlights on the whole time, with leaving the engine running for ages while I wait for the Mrs to come out of yoga/evening classes/shops/work, I get 33mpg. And with temperatures around freezing atm, the engine still warms up in about 2 minutes.

I think the 2 posters above got a bad batch of Fits. There are a few around.
The M.M think Ive never heard of. Maybe the PDI wasnt done right? Or just something off from the factory. Why ask us, take it in......

BTW, my Fit has only got a lowest of 28mpg. It was about 3 times and Ive had my car for a year. I dont drive her light, she sits at idle a lot, and I even use 5w30 as if that matters. Each tank I get 33-35mpg. City driving only.

BAD idea to change the oil early when break-in oil is in there. That, coupled with beating the engine, will cause problems eventually. Remind me not to buy a used car from you.

Why, oh why, do so many people ignore the manual (which is written by actual experts), and then try to blame their problems on the manufacturer?

Kiddies, this is an example of how you can screw yourself out of your own hard-earned pay.
