Why, oh why, do so many people ignore the manual (which is written by actual experts), and then try to blame their problems on the manufacturer?

Kiddies, this is an example of how you can screw yourself out of your own hard-earned pay.
If you read this thread https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...tml#post197520 you will see that GSRswapandslow know more (or thinks he does) about oil than the actual experts, after all he is an ME. And as anyone who works in industry knows, MEs know everything.

Steeldog - you are so right! My Fit was purchased in May - I just now have 3,450 miles on it - the oil is at 50 % when I checked it a week ago. I did take a trip down to Huntington so I need to check it again. Yes then I do check the actual oil level on the dip stick. I do not intend to change my oil until it hits 10% then I will immediately call the dealership and schedule my first oil change plus look over the manual for any other items that should also be done i.e. tires rotated. My hope is to have the car still on the road in 10 to 14 more years.

The maintainence minder system is designed by people who now what they are doing. 90% at 350 mile is not a problem, call me if it is 10% at 1200 or something. And vehicle always improve there mileage as they break in. Plus if it has been cold your mileage may be down some also. RELAX. let the car break in and go from there.

i dont know if i trust my mm. i switched over to mobil 1 at about 1,000 miles and the dealership reset it from 90 back to 100. it really pissed me off but oh well. since then i have over7,000 and it is still at 20 so it seems kinda high for my liking. it is mobil 1 and all but i dont like going over 5,000. i guess i will have to start changing my oil at 50 myself and letting the dealer do it at 0. thats the best i can come up with.

Mine ending up clicking from 100% to 90% around 500 miles. I didn't know it went down 10% at a time.

Not bad at all.. anything after 100Miles the engine is broken in. After that you usually just have a really dirty filter ad running on cruddy oil.

I lways change oil at 3k miles for the first run. the MM is crap. chage your oil every 5k miles regardless if you want to keep the car a long time. Engines aren't getting that much better.... manufacturers extend oil change intervals for exta EPA tax breaks. and it's less "inconvenience" for customes who in egenral change cars every 4 years anyways. Which gives manufacturers the ability to sell more cars if they don't last as long.
