Yeah I totally agree on dash light brightness. It can be ridiculous bright at 100% especially with some aggressive colors some brands use like blue....I usually run abut 50-60% brightness.
Still raining every other day out here...been a month since I've been 'ready' to detail the cars for spring...but NO....rain rain rain.

I sold my house for many reasons, not needing to shovel anymore was a small but pleasant thing haha
Lol Yeah i'll pass on the snow...I enjoy skiing and visiting places with snow...but not sure I can live somewhere that snows. I'll need a winter beater if that was the case haha.
Happy Monday everyone.
Happy Monday everyone.
Oh man, I was convinced today was Thursday, what a bummer.
My pile of parts in my closet is ridiculous.

And that's ignoring this:

And the valve cover sitting on a shelf, the oil cap/brake pads/shift knobs sitting in a different closet, CP035 sitting in my parent's barn and oh yeah, the four tires that have been in the trunk of the Fit for six days.
I am an idiot of epic proportion.

Do you shoot often with the 5D? I have a T2i that rarely sees the light of day because I always am snapping shots with the cell phone instead. The only time I bring out the dslr is for "real" photography - zoo, kid parties, any type of event where I plan on never printing pictures...
hahahaha
I play with it a lot. If I go out for a walk, I bring it, I leave it on my coffee table so I can take pictures of my cat doing stuff without getting up, if a friend comes over I'll often take pictures of them, etc. It has been frigid and miserable in the month or so that I've had it and I've taken around 300 pictures. With the Rebel XS I was using I took 2000 pictures in three months.
My favorite thing I've taken is a picture of a girl I was seeing recently, it is totally appropriate but I'm not going to post a picture of her anywhere on the web haha.
But stuff like this, the cat on his scratching post & even the S2000 just sitting in storage when I saw it for the first time in months on Sunday.

In my mind all practice is good practice.

Nice pile o' parts Mike410b!
Yeah taking 'good' pics takes practice. My GF sold her Nikon D700 and is waiting to get a newer one when the time is right. She wants one in the FX line but one that uses SDcards and is lighter. The D700 was a GREAT camera. I loved using it....the weight didn't bug me...but the fact that it used compact flash memory bothered me tremendously.
Got my Samsung Galaxy S10+ yesterday. So fast and snappy compared to my 'old' phone. Time will tell.
Also been looking into buying a 3d printer lately...any of you own/use one?

Nice shots, mike!
I keep my Canon charged and ready to rumble mainly for the kids. They like to take it out once in awhile and snap shots. Especially when I pick up a new prime or zoom lens (the inexpensive ones), they are eager to test it out. I usually end up with a bunch of pictures of the dog and cat's butts when I get the camera back. I find it interesting to see what piques their interest and how they go about framing shots (besides derrieres).
I definitely need more practice, though, especially with sporting events and cycling competitions (anything with lots of movement).

Never done anything with a 3D printer, sorry dude.

How many lenses do you have? I just have a 50mm f/1.8 lens, I would like to pick up a 35mm and 70-300, but I'm trying to go back to school so I need to be smarter with my money. My legs are a good enough zoom function for now.
Movement stuff is big fun, I love taking rolling shots of cars so that's where all of my motion practice is.
That's great you let your kids zoom about with the camera, hopefully it can trigger a hobby for them into adulthood.
Thanks! They're not my best, but I have barely used this to really have anything better to show for it.

I figure on the shotgun approach to parenting - throw different things at the kids and see what sticks. Also, cleaning shotguns when dates come to pick them up many, many, many, many, many years from now.
For lenses, I currently have - 28-135, 55-250, and a 75-300. The 28-135 is my favorite, but it is a heavy lens. The weight is a big deal, especially when the kids are shooting. I usually have one of my primes attached - either the 24 or 100 - when my kids have the camera. I think/hope it makes them really think about what they want to take a picture of and framing. It makes the process simpler without zoom and it makes them move, rather than sit and shoot. And if they break the body, at least I have an excuse to upgrade!

In Fit news, I put tires on my Advans

I went with 195/50/16, my wheel sizing is a bit aggressive for stock metal on a GE so if I can avoid rubbing I'm going to try to do so.
Those wheels will look great on the Fit Mike!
Apparently my Dunlop tires on my GTI go flat when they get close to the wear bars. I got another flat and had to change the tire on the side of the road again. In the process of getting new tires and possibly wheels. Guy has some OZ wheels close to me that would be nice to get.
My most used lens is a Tamron 17-50 2.8. It's perfect for family functions and being inside. My favorite is my 50mm prime though. It renders such great colors and is sharp! My film camera has a 50mm but at full frame instead of crop.
Happy Monday

OZ makes a nice wheel though.
17-50 2.8 seems super convenient! A proper wide angle lens would be awesome.
My film camera is a 40 or 41mm lens IIRC. It is an old fixed lens range finder.
Picked up some Superturismo LM for the GTI. Tires are shot but they will do for a few weeks until I can get some summer rubber. Thinking of going with the Potenza Pole Positions. I will get winter tires put on my OEM Detroit's once the time comes later this year.
17x7.5 ET50 19.9 pounds
18x7.5 at 29 pounds are the stock wheels
I have never had or felt OZ wheels but they are very nice. I think $500 was a good deal. One does have some curb rash but I will look into getting it fixed if it is not to expensive.

I'm re-posting this from the "what did you do to your GE today" because I think some of you guys generally pretty much stick to this thread? I'm really happy with this setup, they're a little rough up close....but the car isn't perfect either, as proven by the big dent someone gave me at a bed, bath and beyond a couple years ago.
I mounted my Advans on my GE. I still need to lower the car but I just wanted to get off my snow tires ASAP.
Even with the exaggerated wheel gap from the slightly shorter sidewall & more aggressive offset I can tell it will look really great at a reasonable ride height.

Yes those wheels look great on the Fit Mike!! It will look even better when it is lowered. Half the gap will be perfect for daily duties and not having to fear speed bumps!!!
Thanks. I got a quote to repair the curb rash for the one and it only cost $100 which I felt was good for about 10" of rash. I have an appointment to get it fixed next week.
Thanks. Yes so much lighter, should ride better and tires are cheaper. I bought some tires just have to pick them up. TireRack had a great deal on these new General GMax RS tire. Initial reviews are great but there are not a lot of customer reviews so I was hesitant but for the price ($330 after mail in rebate) for an Ultra High Performance Summer tire I figured it was worth a gamble.

The GTI now has a boost gauge because racecar and they are cool
. Bought it used with the pod and all hook up parts. It is off by about 1-2 pounds so a better one will be swapped out later. It's a GlowShift which is not the highest quality gauge but my inner ricer/fast n furious self likes it lol.
