I have no doubt that a manual Fit would be able to keep up with your Subaru, might get a jump off the line but after that I doubt it would pull on it until highway speeds.

do you really need to know if 90hp is faster then 140hp? jeez...

why be concerned with how fast a gas sipping- micro compact is? its just that, and nothing more...

0-60 in 8.7 seconds. I doubt the Subaru is doing much better than that. Hell FG2/FA5 Sis are only getting high 6s (with a good driver) with 90 more HP and a gear box tuned much more to sport than a Fit or a base Impreza. As it is the manual Fits gears are so close, it's the only reason it moves as quick as it does for the HP. HP isn't everything that makes a car go fast, how it's transfered to the wheels is a big part of it, it's also why you don't feel like you're going anywhere in the Fit because there is no HP or Torque the acceleration is all close gearing.

Regardless, if my Fit with i/h/axle-back can hang with my friends 08 rabbit with intake and cat-back (ala 190ish hp) then I'm sure a stock Fit can stay with a 140hp Subaru.

though it's silly to argue about a Fit being "fast", he's right. i've driven both vehicles mentioned. an older n/a awd subaru is very torquey, but falls flat on power early in the rpms. combined with the drivetrain loss, they are no quicker at highway speed.

Well there is something called "torque" and "power to weight ratio". I'm not trying to be an ass but I'm just saying it's not all about the horsepower. I just found out the fit does a better 0-60 time by like 4 seconds than my car. As I said earlier, I don't expect the fit to be fast, I just don't want a car that is any slower than my extremely slow Impreza lol.

WHAT!??! Please tell me that was a joke.
The Rondo beat my friends modded 89 240sx also. And he beat a 5speed Mk3 Supra last night. So the car isnt that slow, it is a v6.

Just to reiterate that 0-60 is only with the manuals... auto fits are in the 11s IIRC.

Well, I just looked up the times for a Impreza. Its an older one though.
1993 Subaru Impreza L: 0-60 10.6sec. 1/4 mile 17.9sec.

Now thats slow. I didnt look up if there was a HP difference in the year change.
BUT.... I did notice this:
2004 Subaru Impreza RS 2.5 (manual) : 0-60 7.9sec 1/4 mile 15.9sec
Thats almost as slow as what I ran in my Fit. Keep in mind those are professional drivers too.

All in all, youll be happy with the Fit. Youll probably feel like youre going slow in the Fit because the lack of torque but youre going just as fast as the Impreza.

EDIT. Dammit, 1995 the 2.2L motor was introduced from the Legacy. Those times I found were with the 1.8L dog.

Automatics dyno at roughly 10hp less than the MTs at the wheel and they're geared significantly different as well, much taller. So, yes.

i'm pretty sure honda is unfamiliar with the term “torque”...

and what car do you drive? a soapbox derby car? 4 sec. seems drastic...and i hate getting 0-60 bs times when 90% of the time they are inaccurate...

Impreza to Fit

My last car was a '97 Impreza wagon with the 2.2L engine (was it really? I'd have said 2.1). Anyway, my new MT Fit (just passed 1,000 miles today) feels perkier and more fun to drive. Actually seems quicker taking off from a stop and seems to do as well on the highway when it's up over 60. However, I agree that it's in the mid-range where you see a difference. I have to downshift to do several steep hills near my home. One that the Impreza could do in 4th requires 3d in the Fit and one that the Impreza could do in 3d requires 2d in the Fit. These are hills in residential areas that are approached one around a steep curve and one after a corner so the car has to be slowed quite a bit before starting the hill.

It's also obvious that while the Fit does well enough for me in bad weather, it's lighter than the Impreza and only FWD, so it won't equal the Impreza in snow.

Neither of these cars would be my choice if power was my main concern. I wanted the low purchase price, mpg, room behind the front seats with rear seats going down flat, and in the Fit's case really cute car that's so much fun to drive it makes me smile every time I'm behind the wheel. For that matter I was humming and singing when I washed it, which I've never done with any other vehicle.

I LOVE my Fit , but I pretty much have to agree based on my experience with the Honda's we've had. That doesn't mean Honda engines are bad, but they definitely aren't torque monsters, at least the ones I've driven.

Here's my take. If you want a fast car, the Fit isn't it unless you are prepared to mod it significantly. It's an AWESOME sub-compact car that was designed for excellent fuel economy and great versatility. It's also a blast to drive because of it's go-kart like persona and it's handling. In stock form, it is not fast however. It certainly has enough power to get the job done for the type of car it is and it is a blast to drive, especially in the twisty stuff. Suffice to say that I'M NOT GIVING MINE UP!

One day I'll have a fast vehicle and hopefully that means a Lightning in my driveway

The Fit is fast......only in the corners though. Straight line speed isnt that great stock and probably never will be until FI comes into play. But really the Handling > Straight Line performance anyway and thats where the Fit really shines.

I've had two STIs, an EVO IX RS, Audi S4, Type R, etc., and this car is plenty quick enough for me, for a daily driver.

I firmly believe the best thing you can do is dump the heavy stock wheels(17lbs each! ) and get yourself some lightweight alternatives. I have barely owned this car a month, but my experience tells me that the firm ride, acceleration, and mpgs can be dramatically altered for the better with a lighter setup. They will, in fact, be my very first modication to this car.

Why on earth would you do that? What would they steal from a Fit? Your wheels and thats basically it. The Fit has nothing interchangeable with Ef, Eg, or Ek's which are the popular stolen Hondas.

Good luck getting a WRX. You'll regret it.
I know many people that got a used WRX and hate their life after it. Hahah!

But like Ive said before, people wondering if the Fit is fast enough.... I choose to drive the Fit over a 300-350whp Mx-6 every day. That should say something.

Yeah but I'm just tired of people staring my car down, and i've been watching...they all drive hondas.I just want something that is enjoyable to drive and lowkey, the fit is enjoyable to drive but i hate all the attention.

Why do those people hate the wrx?
