New Fit- Decreasing Mileage

Hey, I got my fit a couple weeks ago. The first fill up gave me 31mpg, 2nd 27 and 3rd 25. I have the AT sport and my driving is 50/50 city hwy. I only have a few hundred miles on it so maybe I need more break in. I've been trying to granny drive. The temps have been in the 20's and 30's the last week.
Is this a normal? My Honda Element would get 22 to 24 mpg all the time. I'm really hoping the Fit gets better.

yah, give it more time to adapt to your driving conditions and habits.

are you using the sport shift mode by any chance? you're probably
under reving too much thinking that lower rpm equal better milage.. not
the case.

let the AT do the shifting for you and see where the computer puts the cruising rpm's.

Thanks, I did try the sport shift on my second tank. But the third has been all auto. Do you think my Thule roof rack would hurt the mileage?

How fast do you drive on the highway? 75+ I'd say yeah.

I think alot of the contributing factors have already been discussed - and just from personal experience I saw about 33mpg initially, then a drop down to high 20s/low 30s during the first 5000 or so miles, and now around 9000 I'm pushing mid to high 30s highway, low 30s city. But I have the 5-speed so results might vary. But expect some un-characteristically low mpg during those first several thousand miles.

Thanks for the advice. I feel better knowing that this is probably typical.

I try to stay between 65 and 70 on the highways here in Michigan.

I have only a few hundred miles on my 08 Fit Sport AT and the first few miles were about 25 mpg then the next 100 were more like 22 mpg with same driving pattern no sport driving.

So same pattern, and I don't drive fast only 55-60 and mixed urban but not heavy traffic.

Give it a few 1000 miles to break in.

Cold weather seems to have a negative impact, and blended gasoline too.

Check tire pressure also.

your problem has already been answered by yourself...its an auto...

my 07 at fit gets 24-28 mpg, but its mostly city driving...at's HATE the city, on a road trip i tracked 38-41 mpg, all highway...with such low hp/tq, it struggles with hills, stop and go traffic, and frequent up/down shifts...which seems to be the reason for such low mpg rates in autos...

It takes a while to break in. I was taught break in is the first 600 miles. My fit's mileage boosted after as high as 2500 miles. The lowest mileages for my fit was between my first and 2nd oil changes.

I had a Subaru wagon and putting on Thule's hurt mpg pretty severely. I'd open the sunroof and it sounded like a storm up there. Took 'em off and mpg went up 2-3 instantly. So I usually threw my bike in the back on long trips. Do the same trip with and w/o the rack..would love to hear the result.
