Welcome Tp Carwash Hell

So, I'm in a hurry last Sunday and it's cold as $#@! out, so I take my NHBP Fit to the local car wash. It's always been fast and has always done an Ok job. Everything proceeds normally until the very end. At the end of the wash, there's these two vinyl doors that are supposed to slide open just before the wash pushes you out. This time, one of the doors doesn't open all the way. I can't stop,`cuz the rollers are pushing my car forward and there's another car right behind me, and the door thingy drags all the way down the passenger side of the car.. The edge of the door gizmo has got some carpet-like stuff on it and it's full of dirt and grit and god-knows-what - think 80-grit sandpaper. The result - tons of scratches down the side of my car - front fender along the crease, mirror, both doors, edge of the rear fender, corner of the bumper.

We were traveling over the holidays in our other car, so I didn't notice until yesterday when I got the Fit out to run some errands. Sunny day - what a mess... The small ones may polish out, but lots are clearly into the paint. I could be looking at resquirting most of the side of the car.

Went to the car wash yesterday and spoke to the "general manager" who explained that the owner wasn't there (he never is) and gave me a form to fill out. According to the manager guy, they'll want me to get two estimates - one from a shop here in town run by a friend of his and one from a shop I choose. Then the negotiations begin and I'm sure I'll end up taking it in the ear.

Stay tuned - I'll update y'all on this saga as it unfolds.

that sucks, stick it to them, sounds like its not the first time they've had trouble with it if they've got a shop to send you to. My advice is take it to the quarter wash, that way nothing has to touch the paint is water, soap and the drying cloth

get your insurance agent involved. let him take care of the discussions.

as mentioned above, dont pay a dime. even if you do pay deductible,
make sure their insurance reimburses you with a check. goodluck with the
repairs.

man thats a total mess. that is why i will never EVER take my car to a wash again. and if i did, ill pay the extra cash to get it handwash. i would rather drive around in a dirty looking car then bring it in those drive thru ones. anyways i hope everything works out ...at least they were pretty cooperative with the whole situation.

I use the new touchless car washs. It cost more BUT I worry less about the paint.

Has anyone heard anything or had anything bad happen with these touchless car washs?

Sorry to hear about your car. Having a lawyer involved with defintely tell them YOU MEAN BUSINESS.

Hope your Fit looks great again after all the pain is over.

Tom.
