Your Fit Experience!

Hey GD/Fit owner's. New to the site and I'm looking to buy a '08 VBP Fit Sport AT for my wife. I currently own an '06 Civic Si and need another car to cart around the kids. Some positive and negative words about the Fit are welcome. Posts about the Fit + kids will be cool.

Sorry I searched but I'm new to this forum so I still got to figure it out.

Pic of said Si.

Welcome to FitFreak. Awesome Si man.

The Fit is a killer car. I highly recommend it, and all the versatility should help with kid hualing. Do a quik look around the site and you will find tons of good info.

well. i can tell you that, when my buddies get in my ride, they love it. i mean the headroom is great, itll fit 5 people depending on there size, it fits 4 including myself. my friends are linebackers, so so they take up a lot of room.

just say this is exactly like a honda oddessey but shrunken to a smaller size.
it has all the functions of a mini van, the gas mileage is great, and the cargo space is huge. i fit 2 18" subs in the little "trunk" that we have.

all i can say is , if you need to functions that the fit can offer ..do it.

my negative thoughts are.....

get the automatic....haha, if your looking to save gas, its a lot easier to save gas when you have an automatic. and if its for your wife to haul the kids around..then itll be perfect.

i have a very hard time to save gas with a manual because i just want to take the rpms a bit higher to pull harder.

do it.

No kids here, but the combined weight of my 3 dogs is 320 lbs. They all fit at the same time. And the monthly mountain of dog food from the Petco store also fits (not with the dogs, though). Your wife will love it- buy it.

Driven normally, the manual Fits get a good 7-10 MPG better than the automatics.

Seems many locally driven auto Fits are getting fuel economy in the upper 20's. You can do better than that in a lightly used civic and have more people room. It just won't be as fun.

She already loves it, now I just have to tackle the salesman and manager!

I love the Fit myself, it just reminds me of all good things about Honda that I love. It seems to carry on the EF,EG,EK, and EP3 traditions. They seem to have more in common than just being hatchbacks.

I average 35 mpg in my AT, and there are other threads for this info. But I have yet to see a post with an average of 45 with a MT.

Lol, I always found a thread with pics makes a good one. Plus you don't get any "this thread is worthless without pics posts."

The Si is nice but the Fit has x10000000 more options with the JDM market that it has. USDM Si get a little love in Japan, but there's only a few imported to Japan and the main tuner there working them is Feels.

I plan on simple mods to the Fit when I get it. Sportlines, camber kit, HIDs, and K&N drop-in. Maybe some rims. But who knows I already love the appearance of the Fit and teh mod bug butes hard... Still it is for the wife, so what she says floats for tuning.

hahaha!

the moment i got my FitS i started modding it, basically lowering, wheels,
axle back, and some other little things for the interior. car is a blast to
drive. since you like Honda's you'll definitely like the Fit, especially the
5MT's. the gearbox is soooooo~~~ damn smooth it's crazy. puts my
cooper-s to shame as far as the gearbox department. same cable type
gearbox (by Getrag). night/day difference in smoothness.

I've test driven a Fit and was nicely suprised by the pick-up for its powerplant. I enjoyed my drive so much and what the Fit has to offer for the price, I'm pretty much sold. i just wanted to find the TSBs and common problems that people are having with the car. I know this one is manufactured in Japan from looking at the VIN, so I expect better quality than my Canadian manufactured Si.

I will have to go AT because of my wife. She can drive the MT Si fine but it's easier for her to drive the Auto. Plus it come with paddleshifters for when I take the wheel.

You will love your AT. I love mine, no regret on mine Transmission choice. S mode is so fun with the paddles, it gives the control that most AT's lack.

Hey Kenchan, I thought I recognised your screen name. The wife and I are getting ready to jump ship from the MCS, as we don't want to deal with it when we are out of warranty. And with 30,000 on it after a year and 4 months, we're coming up on it fast. How does the Fit compare, drive, feel and storage wise?

Thanks,

I just bought my wife a Fit Sport AT. She loves it! I have been driving it a lot the past few days and really like it. Plus the aftermarket parts are SOOOOOO cheap for this car!! I just want to drive it stock for a few weeks Then it's on to moding! I hope she does not get more mods than the NSX!!

BTW, I got 30.5mpg on my first tank of gas!! I could not believe that it was so high with only 400 miles on the engine! It will only get better!

Thanks,
hi greg- man, i can not say how excited and happy i am with my FitSport 5MT.
the car is extremely versatile and extremely fun to drive. i would
say very comparable to the MC as far as handling.

As far as power, obviously the MCS is much faster in the V6 times, but
the FitSport does not feel slow at all. vtec kicks in very early (3k range)
and pulls well.

Steering... very agile and feels great.

Gearbox... i can't say enough how SMOOTH! the FitS's gearbox is. it's
a cable system like our MCS's but yet none of that crunchy poppin hard
to get into the gates feeling. extremely smooth. if you love MT's, you'll
definitely love the Fit's 5MT.

i can't say the FitS can directly replace the MCS... MCS (R53) is like in
its own world...more of a sports car type genre than dailydriver imho.

but if you're looking for a small, yet super fun daily driver with tons of cargo
space (was able to fit 4wheels with tires with the rear seat up!) it's definitely
worth a look. plus, there's a lot of aftermarket bits available.

Cool. Thanks Ken. That is about what I was thinking. The MT thing is a no brainer. No one in my family or hers drives a slushbox, can't stand them . I kind of figured that it wasn't going to be up to the job of the MCS in terms of handling and power delivery. Maybe if I drop a turbo on it that might help. I think I'll probably go with the base Fit just because the upgrade stuff isn't that important to me. I'll be ripping out 90% of the sound system within the first month or two and I'm not too fond of the stock 15" wheels. For the mark up between the two I can get a set of rims and either fab a body kit or buy one. I love the MCS but witht eh wife doing 25,000 - 30,000 miles per year we need something a little more reliable adn it would be nice to have a car that the dog can fit in without him being on the front seat. I really hate getting in the Accord after the weekend and smelling dog.

I've got less than 800km's on my fit (5spd) right now. Honestly, I really like it. However, I'm disappointed with the MPG. I was expecting a lot more economy out of this car and I'm just not seeing it. I've even done the no-a/c defrost mod and I usually don't rev passed the 2500rpm mark. Thus far, I'm not getting passed ~430km's per tank. I used to get more than 500km's per tank off my old 2k3 Civic Sedan.
