With my manual Fit Sport, I get around 41 mpg driving at between 55 and 60 mph. It is odd to see people who have automatics stating that their cars get better mileage than manuals. It just ain't so.

On a pure highway cruise, an Auto will get better mileage than a Manual, this is because of the RPM drop. Around town, the manual will get better mileage, this is a given. I'm "pro" manual and always will be, but the gearing on the top end of the manual is terrible.

Hmmm do you have and data to prove that or is that just your gut feel on this?

hahaha

Vast experience with Honda specific ECU's and knowledge of how fuel variations at different RPMS affects mileage, so yes first hand knowledge that isn't Fit specific, but is very applicable to this car.

Reason I asked is that has been discussed at length on other more Eco knowledgeable sites like Clean mpg and nobody has been able to verify that with data like from a scan gauge

In fact, with lots of talk about ways to lower the silly MT rpm at speed nobody has been able to say with facts how much the FE would change if one could lower the 3000RPM at 60mph 5 or 10%. Some suggest it may be worse based on engine power/Tq curve and load on car at speed.

i think the best speed for milage on the high way is 80-90mph.

best speed for highway is with the flow of traffic. IF there is really no one else around then chaning your speed to obtain good mpg could be a wise idea.

i'm kinda sure it's common sense
isn't there about a 1000 rpm difference?
as long as it's not low enough to lug the engine, it should be getting better mpg

Yeah I have the 5 Speed Manual and at 60 Miles per Hour I tach at about 2700 RPM and at 70 Miles per Hour I tach at around 3200 (in 5th Gear of Course)

I would have to agree on that. A Tank of gas last's me about two weeks (12 or 13 days) with the 5 Speed Manual, (and I'm driving about 230 miles a week) and needless to say I'm LOVIN' that. I went from a 305 V8 Auto at 70 bucks a week in gas down to $17.50 a week in gas.

generally speaking 55mph is the optimum speed for best mpg. Air resistance has a sqauring effect as the velocity of the car increases. In other words if you go from 25 to 50 mph the increase of air resistance is 4 times more. Going from 25 to 100 mph the increase of air resistance force is 16 times more. Obviously other factors attribute such as rpms as one other mentioned but air resistance is the major contributing factor.

does the j's racing front lip or canards or say the spoon duckbill help the fit become more aerodynamic and actually improve mpg when cruising over 46 mph?

Manual Final Drive: 4.294
5th Gear: .757

Automatic Final Drive: 4.562
5th Gear: .550

Meaning:
At 60 MPH, MT = 2,796 RPM, AT = 2,158 RPM
At 65 MPH, MT = 3,029 RPM, AT = 2,338 RPM
or
At 2,500 RPM, MT = 53.6 MPH, AT = 69.4 MPH
At 3,000 RPM, MT = 64.3 MPH, AT = 83.3 MPH

As slow as possible. The faster you go, the more your MPG will decrease.

they increase high-speed stability at the cost of aero-slipperiness.

Correct. Aero parts will decrease your MPG.
