Exclamation Engine mount DESTROYED! Please read! *not a koolkevin1107 writeup*

Well, i don't know if anybody reads my posts but i did note a couple times that i was having some transmission problems...it turns out my transmission is completely fine. I found the culprit of the clunking noise i was receiving in 1st and 2nd gears at any RPM. At first, it did it at WOT but then it worstened after a week.

CVT?

Yeah that is a broken engine mount. the rubber actually came OUT of the mount and was torn, this is on both sides of the same mount. All the other mounts were fine.

Here is the down part, my car has 41k on the odo and i do have an extended warranty but i have to pay a $200 deductable first. What i am going 2 do is go 2 Robertson honda 2 get it diagnosed (even tho i know that's the problem) and buy the mount and replace it myself. I can get it for $50 so i'm not worried. If i give it to them, they will charge me $120 labor and I know how 2 replace an engine mount.

What i want from you fitfreakers is to please check the mount. This can be found underneath the battery tray (i removed that rubber intake piece so u can see it). I don't drive my car too hard (just downshift w/ rev matches to pass people) and i have NEVER neutral-dropped my car so it's kind of strange that this happened to me. I want everybody to check the mount, maybe this is a recalled thing?

Also, i know some of you have innovative engine mounts? can you guys please chime in? I want to know how hard it was to install the mounts and roughly how much did you pay for them because i am REALLY considering them. Also, are they full replacements or just covers that sit on the original ones?

I want to thank Steeldog for sending me the pix of how he had tranny problems. W/o thinking to look above the tranny, i probably would have not found it because i thought it was coming from below the car so that's where i tore my car apart n looked around.

Again, any help from anybody will be awesome. Please ppl check the mount real fast and tell me if it looks normal or destroyed like mine.

Oh btw this will NOT affect the LED dome light GB soon. Thanks guys!

kevin

Sorry to hear that. I am shocked that a JDM car engine mount lasted on 41k! Maybe Honda can diagnosed the problem. Besides the milage, what month/year was your Fit made in?

Wow! Well, it does suck, but at least it wasn't a MAJOR component of your car.

It's still dark here as I write this, but I will have a look today and will let ya know if mine does look funked-up.

Once, I had a motor mount on a Honda disintegrate, but it was a different type of mount, and was on top of the engine. That was my first Honda, a 1972 Civic, bright orange, and that thing was a go-cart. Smaller than the Fit by far; you could almost park it sideways in a parallel space. Good memories of that little car.

Anyhow, good on you for finding the busted mount before it created new problems. Glad it was only this little aggravation.

my 06civicEX sedan that i had needed new engine mounts within 1k miles.
they replaced it, started clunking again within another 1k miles (they
used the same part), and 3k miles later Honda released a TSB so it was
finally fixed.

not to mentioned leaking front strut.

im sure honda japan is getting the parts from the same supplier(s).

oy I picked up my Fit around the same time as you. Hope I don't have the problem, if I do, they'll probably make me pay for everything since I've modded my car...yarrrr...

Does anyone have a link for aftermarket mounts?

I think mine will go, they do in almost every car I drive my cars hard and the EXTREME wheel hop in the Fit has to be hell on the mounts.

sorry to hear that kevin!

if the innovative mounts are more than just a cover, would that remedy the problem?

Mine has made the clunk a few times, but i don't think i hear it anymore.

my 06 civic did it A LOT, all the time actually, and i always thought it was the tranny!

Well i was looking at some old posts by leonine about how he has the prototype mounts for his AT fit and it's not just a insert, it's the whole thing (full replacement w/ brackets) so that's definitely a plus. I really think i'm going 2 pickup a set because i feel like i need them. I don't trust the stock engine mounts anymore and i want something more beefy (i will sacrifice cabin vibration a little). Here is the link to the mounts. Apparently they are based here in socal in anaheim so maybe i'll stop by to check em out.

PLEASE PEOPLE CHECK YOUR MOUNTS AND REPORT BACK! Maybe this is a TSB notice?!

When I had my front bumper off to install my headlights I think I saw this component, and the inside looked ripped, but it was thin rubber. I wonder if something is wrong with my engine mounts too because the car always feels like it's luggin when going from neutral into first after a cold start unless I give it like 3K+ RPM.

Dang... I beat the booty out of my car. (at times)
Let me go check.

OK... Kevin, I dont think this mount is your problem. Mine does the same thing. I only check the front though. Pics suck due to being night time.

Pulled the rubber insert and it moved freely. Notice it to the left under the batt box corner?

Also, my mount said MT on it for Manual Transmission. Duh.
I have no clunks when shifting. Id check the rear mount or that front one by the radiator.

I did just notice your insert looks a little chewed up. Its suppose to move though, I think.

That piece hes spinning around I guess? Its a rubber insert that goes between the mounts and the mount bracket.
Mine moves also, its not freely though. Doesnt take effort to move but its a bit snug.

Kevins looks like theres 1/2 an inch between the mount bracket and the insert.
I dont have that.

yeah i was confused about the exact same thing, so i asked kevin about it and got it cleared up. if you look at his pictures, the rubber inside the mount is chewed up and torn. that rubber piece that he swivels around (with CVT written on it) should be more snug, like MX6gt said. mine is more snug as well, i only tried to swivel it gently, and it didn't budge. but it's the rubber inside the mount that's chewed/torn, that's what the problem is. the swiveling rubber thing is kind of being used as in indicator of something being loose/broken here.
