Anyway to open the trunk without using the keys?

i'm tired of getting out of the fit to open the trunk for my dad to place his stuff.so is there a way to build a remote opener (i already have a remote starter with an auxiliary option..but i don't want to spend $$ to set up that). is there any DIY thread about this?
thanks in advance

you could just push the button that unlocks the doors...the trunk unlocks at the same time

getting outside is a much better idea than going to the cargo area from the front seat

are you sure?? my hatch unlocks if i use EITHER the unlock button on the inside, or my dealer installed alarm if i click it twice....are you absolutley SURE it doesnt open? i have a keyhole there too (only bases have them) but i have NEVER used it once, or ever plan on it. too much of a pain.

Must have been something the dealer added to yours then...

Base models don't come with the key-less entry which is what the rear hatch is hooked up to on the Sport models. Kinda retarded that even unlocking from the drivers door still won't open the hatch though. Never tried it on mine, I'll see if I can unlock the hatch via the door tomorrow, if that's the case then you can probably just get whatever system does it in the Sport and retrofit it to yours.

If you thought that was odd and or sad...
....the dealer that I went to couldnt even figure out how to open it on the sport model....HHAAHAAHAHAahahahaa...

But seriously honda...c'mon ALL your cars have trunk releases.

I wouldnt feel bad that the Base cant do some of that stuff....on the sport we dont/cant even use the keys on most of the car!!!
You atleast get keyholes in ALL the doors and HATCH !!!!!!! but really its more like and with a little more thrown in for good measure...

I first thought darn... the sport probably gets worse gas mileage because of the anti-aerodymanic body kit and added weight and such...but really it comes out the same because they shaved the key holes...PHEEEW!!! Close one Honda... that could have been a DISASTER!!!

hahah i remember when my friends wanted to open the rear hatch they'd shout at me to release it, and i'd just tell them it's unlocked and to open it themselves. i would have thought the base fit's unlock buttons unlocked the hatch too.

This thread has gotten convoluted, and I have gotten lost.
I have a Sport. I know the hatch unlocks whenever the doors are electrically unlocked, be it by remote or by the button in the door.

So, how does the Base work? Does it have electric locks in the driver's door, but they do not activate the hatch lock? Or just what? The simpler the better please.

Sounds like the hatch is independant from the power lock system, so the only way to open it would be by using the key in the keyhole on the hatch itself. That's pretty lame, but I suppose if you could find the electronic lock system used in the Sport model you could probably swap it out and wire it up to your power locks.
