highway driving?

After reading alot i keep hearing people complain about not haveing any power. This car will be for my drive to work everyday which is 25 miles one way. I sometimes tak my mothers car which is a 2003 civic ex which i find to have plenty of power for highway driving. Does anyone have have any problems keeping up with other cars at about 60-70 miles a hour?

Definetly not. It has plenty to go when your doing 70. It doesnt have a problem at 85 and prbaly not even 95. Its just merging on the freeway and building up speed that people have a problem with. Personally i think the Fit does it fine.

This car is not a highway monster by any means but it does fine. You obviously have to down shift to pass since the car has no torque but it does ok. I usually cruise around 75mph and have had it up to 85mph when passing before.

I am comming from an '01 civic coupe Lx... a little bit less power than your
Ex and even then the power is a little more noticable in the civic. The Fit
wont have any trouble in anyway on the freeway... but the civic was a
noticeable smidge faster and more responsive to flooring it (and it was an AT...my Fit is an MT)

The Fit is an awsome car and for its weight and size and power it does quite well.

you will be so beyond ok... no worries
more importantly the car can out handle most of the other autos out
there with you. (if your up to it...the Fit is more than up to it)

I think the power issue is overstated. It is only that the car has little torque and is slow from a dead stop. That is the only time you may need more and even then not too bad when tached up. Once moving it is fine. Seat of the pants it feels slower than my accord, but faster than my CRV. CRV was also buzzy at 70mph while fit is quiet which is an improvement.

Have you considered a little tuning?
Say intake & headers? The fit is really fun to
drive if you do intake, headers and exhaust (I/H/E).
DOn't worry about freeway drive, I have taken a stock fit
up to 125mph with no problem!

IMO..the Fit has decent power for what it is! I myself use my Fit as a daily sales car averaging about 20k miles a year.
Most of my driving is on freeways & highways and I find my Fit suprises most people on the road. My mods are I/H/E with a stripped down rear. Unfortunetly with this car I have noticed you need to use all of it's power to really get up to speed as mentioned above. I have no problem keeping up with the flow of traffic, the only bad side is the GAS MPG drops big . Small price to pay!!
As far as cruising on the freeway / highway I always downshift into fourth to gain RPM's....in order to get this car to move. The power zone is up around 5,500 RPM so we are not talking about trying to pass someone in 5th gear doing 70MPH @ 3,700RPM...because you are going to move like a SNAIL!! Don't be afraid to hold it in gear abit longer for maximum power output. Getting on freeways for me is flooring it shifting at 5,800 RPM's as an example. Hope this helps

As a former "street dragger" from back in the day, I find that the key as always, is paying attention and planning for what you want to do, and where you want to go/be. I consistently get the jump on people who are talking on cellphones, etc etc, and w/ the manual I usually have 1-2 car lengths before they can react. Same thing when merging w/ highway traffic. When I want "seat of the pants" torque, I take out my 70 Charger, or my 340 Challenger. "No substitute for cubic inches" LOL!!!

I have no problem driving on the highway at 60-70 mph. It's just getting to that point that is annoying. Also if speeds do drop below 60, it requires having to downshift staying in higher rpms that bothers me too. All in all i do wish the fit had a bit more highway power =[

I drive 25 miles on the florida turnpike to get to school everyday, and I bought the fit just for that drive, my other car couldnt handle it. I have no complaints, except that I wish there was a 6th gear. But other then that, the ride is good.

i read somewhere how defensive driving is looking where you need to go, so that way if anything happens you're instinctively going to go where you're looking. i follow that advice quite often.

i personally drive a 15 mile commute on the highway everyday and besides a kind of slow start when merging, i have no issues with it.

Like everyone else here, I've never had a problem with highway driving and the Fit's power. Avg. speed around here is 75-80 mph usually, and the car handles it fine. The car has a ~6500 rpm redline; use it and you'll be fine.

Well we went last night to see the civic LX and the Fit S AT with my wife and little 3 year old girl. Wife felt like the civic was a little tight inside and like the fit alot better,They had a red sport on sales floor and about 3 couples looking at it. Once this little thing(fit) becomes well known it's going to hurt the civic sales.
