More news of the new FIT
Check this out.. This could be the next Honda Fit to come to the USA.
I found the info here:

The above are the first CGI from Japan on the replacement model, due in May/June 2006. Rumors with the picture indicate as well that the top of range might be loaded with the 1.7L VTEC engine, currently found in the Civic VTi-S.
As mentioned in an article found, the engine option for the new Fit/Jazz sounds pretty exciting (but not confirm yet):
- 1.3L VTEC SOHC
- 1.3L iVTEC-DSI
- 1.5L iVTEC-DSI
- 1.5L VTEC DOHC
Dimension wise, length might be increase by only 20mm, while width will be increase to 1695mm (a figure for full size mid size sedan in Japan).

That's so cool! But what a bummer for countries that will get their Fits/ Jazzes just now. Like in the Philippines, it's only been just a year since we got the Jazz. The 1500 VTEC is just about to come out this year... oh well...

milkylog,
If your story is true then remember what Honda CEO Takeo Fukui said when he announced the availability of the Fit/Jazz in the USA: the first US-legal models will be imported from Japan directly in Spring 2006.
That could likely mean one thing, assuming May/June 2006 release of the second-generation Fit in Japan: the US version WILL be the second-generation model. Which makes sense given American Honda Motor's policy of Safety for Everyone with things like side-curtain airbags and improved side-impact protection along with safety for pedestrians in case of a collision, something that the current Fit/Jazz might not meet by Honda's safety standards. Also, note why the new Fit/Jazz is now 1695 mm wide--this makes accommodating American-sized passengers easier and makes installing the side-impact protection system of stronger side doors and side-curtain airbags easier, too.
I can take an educated guess that the engine will be a 1.5-liter variant of the new 1.3-liter I-4 SOHC three-phase i-VTEC engine the next-generation Civic Hybrid will use. Probably rated at around 105-110 bhp SAE, it will have a wide torque band and be also very fuel-efficient, too.

dang....im really looking to get the Honda Fit....
if they do that face-lift into the second year of Fit...that'll be sooooo cool!!
and to think about it, the second year (not generation) of Fit will definitely include all the fix on the first year bugs! the second generation Fit should be on 2009....by the time of 5 year clock...IMO

The US model will have CVT. A manual is no longer sold in the Japanese domestic market but may still be produced for export to the US but doubtful.
Emissions are lower and fuel economy better on the CVT.
The CVT has a feel similar to the wet clutch on a motorbike except for the rubberband effect where the revs rise and then the speed increases to catch up.
