So i'm looking into buying a Fit
I wanted a Fit a little over a year ago, but I couldn't find a 5MT anywhere, so I bought an 06 xB (in Dec 06). Since then the xB has become the wifes car, since I got a CRX (only a 2 seater) and we got a little girl. I was driving home from work the other day, and saw a Vivid Blue Fit lowered with some nice wheels on it, and decided to go look again. I test drove the Fit, felt nice, they had the one I wanted, only complaint is it seems almost identical to my xB performance wise. Little sluggish, trans is geared way too short (speed limit on 95% of the roads I drive on are 60 or 70 mph and the car is screaming at ~3500rpm). I've also read about the bad mpg a lot of people are getting. My xB has almost 15000mi on it now, and i'm still only getting 22mpg, i'm hoping the Fit isn't like this? Can anyone enlighten me? I got an offer for an 08 Sport 5MT for $15,305, is this a good deal? Thanks guys!
gas mileage is HIGHLY based on the driver. baby it and your gas will last forever. the fit is an awesome car. i was looking at the xb before i ever heard of teh fit lol. but out of teh two cars, i am way happier with the fit than i would have been with an xb.
I drive pretty moderately, I can make the tank in my CRX last 380mi on a normal tank. My old 95 Civic i'd get 430mi, on a normal tank. Best tank in the Civic was 450. I can't get 30mpg to save my life in the xB
While the fit may be lacking for power when compared to other cars, I've owned MANY cars (including sports cars) and can honestly say that the Fit has enough. Granted more power would be nice and useful, but I'm not struggling to get up to speed or anything like that.
As far as gas mileage goes. From what I've read, the majority of those with the issues are AT. I've also got a 5MT sport and I'm consistently getting 36 to 38 mpg.
$15,305 for a new 5MT sport is a great deal! I just wonder what they might not be telling you about it.... Either way, good luck and look forward to seeing you on the forums!

per my calculations im getting about 37mpg.
this includes calm commuting and also some spirited driving on the
weekends... mine's also a 5MT. not shy to hit redline either.
it seems like it eats a lot of gas because im filling up almost every
week but when i calculate the consumption vs milage i find that
the car is quite efficient.

If I could go back to the dealer the day I bought my Fit, I would have gotten the civic instead, since I bought my car; nothing but problems, it has been in the shop 6 times and I've had it for a year and a half. My alternator has fried out on me, and I'm not pushing more than 90 watts on an amp, not to mention parts for it are through the roof, and to replace my headlights, I had to take off the entire fender.
Maybe I stand alone on this, but I wish I had done my research.

I would be quite happy with 35mpg, like I said, i'm just worried about it being like the xB and getting low 20s, my buddies Silverado gets close to that mileage with a v8.

also, i had a 06 civic ex sedan before i traded it in for my FitSport.
the Fit is overall a much more fun car where as a civic is pretty
boring, imho.

Well, lack of power is coming from previous cars i've owned. Nissan 240sx on juice, turbo civic, ej20 (wrx engine) swapped Impreza, etc.. These cars just feel quite underpowered to me, but the price is right, and i'm big on Hondas. I plan on swapping a k20 when the warranty expires anyways, figure by then there will probably be more out there for the fit.
I just don't think the new Civics are worth the asking price, they used to be hella-cheap, now Hondas gotten a big name and they're asking 20k+ for them. I'd rather spend a few thousand more and get a WRX if that were the case.
Yeah, you know what i'm talking about. I'm not trying to say the Fit can't pull its own weight, its just far from fast.
my 02wrx i had long time ago was $28k OTD
it's probably because ive already experienced the wrx a while ago
(sold the car over 4yrs ago), but the FitSport is much more rewarding
to drive.
Sorry, I was thinking wrong. I was looking at the only Civic I would buy, which is the SI Sedan, which is $21,310, whereas the WRX Sedan is $24,350. $3,040 more for better style (IMHO), All-Wheel-Drive, 27hp, 87tq, and much more fun to drive (once again, IMO)
well i have had my 5MT sport since sept. and i have loved it every time i drive it, true its no speed demon, but its fun to drive, gas mileage is great... i get around 30 MPG when i dont care about my gas... if i try and save gas i get around 38.. one tank i got 42... as we all agree the fit is not the fastest thing on the road i will say it can take the twistys faster than just about anything... on the highway it does rev a bit high, but it s a honda, also Kraft Werks has a supercharger kit out that got great reviews... the gas mileage even stays almost identical... and thas quite a bit cheaper than a K20 swap. good luck in your car hunt, i doubt you will be displeased with a fit!
