Those 195 55 15's

I live in Michigan where the weather and roads could take a toll on your vehicle. It was on a Thursday morning on the way to work when I ran over a pothole that was at least 4 inches deep. I checked the tires out and they appeared to be fine. Then a couple of days later I noticed bulges in the fornt and rear tires of the driver's side.

I called numerous tire companies and they do not carry any 195 55 15's. Not even 205's if you want to go a touch bigger. Finally, I found a plce that has some tires in my size.

The point I am trying to make is if you have an emergency and need tires right away. It may take a long time for them to arrive at your local tire dealer due to them being so rare.

tires

WOW That's not good. Thought that would be pretty common tire.

Wondering what it would take to recalibrate the speed=o=meter for bigger tires??? anybody???

You would have to change the little gear in the transmission hooked up to the speed sensor. Since it runs ever so slightly fast anyway this would be pointless.

About the tires - 195/55/15 was the stock size on the EM1 Civic Si, I never had any trouble finding them. I evntually went up to 205/50/15 and still no trouble.

I just picked up my Fit Sport a little over a week ago. I thought I would have trouble finding winter tires in that size. But I was able to find some made by Good Year and Michelin. I went for a set of Michelin X-ice's.

I'm told that a simple adjustment of the computer is all that's required and that most speed shops have the equipment to do this.

Interesting. I'll have to look into that. I'm pretty sure lowering the cruse RPM with larger tire would result in better cruse fuel economy ie better mpg.

On my 1998 Chevy Suburban that's all that was needed and the dealer do it easy as pie.
