Questions before I buy a FIT!

So it's time that I trade in the good ol' 99' Eclipse.

My eclipse has been a good car... apart from having to swap the engine and fix 150 other things.

I think it's time for a NEW car! As you probably all know, the 2gen Eclipse GS's are NOT fast(16.5ish), and so changing over to the fit won't really even phase me as far as performance goes.

I have a few questions.

1. If I wanted my Fit to be in the 15's(even high 15s is fine) how much extra money would I have to put into the car?(I do NOT want aftermarket exhaust. I had an awesome Greddy Evo2 exhaust on the Eclipse but I'm really, really tired of the highway drone, I want a quiet car.)

2. What changes can I make that will keep the car efficient and reliable?

3. After all was said and done, what did you end up paying for your Fit? I'm looking at a $16,300 MSRP quote on the website(MT Sport, grill, muffler tip, meter trim and meter ring), think I could talk them down to 15,000 or less? I'm really tight on cash, so any hope you can give me gets me closer to joining the club

4. Sometime down the road, I may want to go FI, now, obviously I'd rather go Nitrous(25-50 wet shot maybe?), but is the $3500 SC really worth it for less than 130hp? Also, what kind of gains would I look at if I kept the stock exhaust(it's not like 1" is it?)?

5. Lastly, any guys 19-24 with good student and few to no tickets mind sharing what you pay for insurance on this bad boy(I'd obviously be getting a loan, so full coverage).

Thanks, guys!

1. KWSC

2. KWSC

3. $15,300 doesnt include the $645 destination and handling fee. Also the accessories on there do not include labor. Goodluck on getting that $15000.

4. Yes it is worth it.

5. I pay $50 a month. im 24.

You could go with a quiet exhaust. Tanabe makes a quiet one or you could use an OEM muffler from another vehicle like a Civic Si.

KraftWerks supercharger is going to be very reliable and will keep the fuel economy very efficient. It is rated at 121 hp at the wheels with the stock exhaust. with upgraded injectors and a more free-flowing exhaust, you'll be looking at more like 150+ at the wheels. a high-boost kit is also in the works if you need even more power.

As for what you'll pay for the car, it seems most people have paid right around MSRP. but the difference between $15,000 and $16,000 is only about $20 per month depending on the length of the loan and APR %.

Is there a nitrous kit for the Fit? If so, what size shot would you run?

1. You're looking at the lowest end ECONOMY car. Making it go fast will contradict that economy part.

2. anything you do in regards to #1 will negate #2. (like, for instance, putting a supercharger on it- you'll make it faster, but you'll suck a lot more gas. No way around that)

3. $14k (got mine used)

4. Again, you're starting with a low end economy car. Sure, it can be improved, but you won't get much more out of it. If that SC gets it to 130hp, that's still pathetically low, yet not too bad since the Fit is relatively light.

5. No idea. I'm 31 and have a spotless record. I pay about $110/mo for all three of my cars.

Seriously, you're looking at the wrong car if you want to go fast. No offense to my brethren here, the Fit is a GREAT car for what it is, but it's not much to work with if you want to make it into something it's NOT. An engine swap would probably be the best thing to get a lot more power out of it, but heck, if you're as young (and probably as broke) as I think you are, you should just look at a ~2 year old (insert whatever car is fast enough).

+1. Sounds like the OP should consider a used WRX or something.

2. PM and good driving habits.

3. I paid around $15.5k for my 5MT and $16.7k for my 5AT.

4. No idea.

5. Out of your age bracket, though at 25 I pay ~$1000 a year with $500 deductible, I have lots of tickets.

Fray Adjesent... the KW SC gets almost the same mileage as stock Fit... its a well designed kit... we all know the Fit will never be a 10 sec. car(well maybe on the 1/8th mile) but it sure kicks the crap out of almost anything on the twisties!

Question Opinions

[

You'll need a turbo or supercharger, both in the mid 3K catagory.

2. What changes can I make that will keep the car efficient and reliable?
Don't get 15 sec quarter-miles.

Sorry, Honda is limiting supply so dealers aren't dealing much. Getting even a few hundred of list is tough. You might be better off with a Versa: more room, less costly, readily available, better CD, etc and it has an 1800 cc engine with already has a turbo that matches on the aftermarket but I don't know if anyone has done so.

Fuel Injection? Formula 1? Why go nitrous?

5. Lastly, any guys 19-24 with good student and few to no tickets mind sharing what you pay for insurance on this bad boy(I'd obviously be getting a loan, so full coverage).
My insurance guys say the Fit right now is good value, however, like the CRX, once you get the twits as owners that will increase the premiums.

Thanks, guys![/quote]
