Warning Ticket
So, i was driving home from my friends house last night around midnight and got pulled over by a highway patrol. he gave me a warning ticket for going 67 in a 50. I got luck there. Well my escort passport doesn't seem to work in my car. what would be a reasonable price for a new radar detector? i don't want anything really expensive, not a lot of bells and whitsles, just something that will let me know when i am getting clocked.
id get the valentine V-1.. but if he was a statie he prolly got u with laser.. and that sux... laser is hard to detect and when you do its just letting you know that you are going to be puled over. your best bet is the V-1 tho... 400 bucks and you could do a laser jammer (legal in MOST states) those run about 650$ plus install
In all reality though, picture this situation:
You're on a highway cruising at 70 in a 50, there's a little old man in the right hand lane going 45, all of a sudden the car in front of the little old man hits a deer so they slam on their breaks, the little old man probably has a 2-second window as well as a window beside him for safety reasons, but as he puts on his breaks and realizes that his reaction and/or his breaks weren't enough to stop him, he checks his mirror to see that the window beside him is open with plenty of room to spare. There's plenty of room, YOU are 300 feet back and in the moment that he has to spare that he glimpses back at your car, he's got plenty of room, so he proceeds to swerve over into your lane to miss the stopped car. One second later, since you were going 25 mph faster than him AND he likely hit his breaks before you, you collide into the rear of him most likely at a speed over 60. He's old. He dies.
Now, if you were going 50, you could have put on your breaks lightly even with a slow reaction(say you were listening to a music and your favorite part of the song came on) and you could have left the man plenty of room to come over.

no, that's the story i got from the CHP. only difference is he used an old lady instead of old man. no joke.

I have a V-1 and for the money its a great little detector. I dont do any real crazy speading (or atleast i try not to) but even a couple over its nice to know where the cops are. You will def spend some money on it but imo there isnt a better detector out there. Once you live with the arrows you will never go back.

in my opinion, radar detectors are a waste of money and can actually fuel you to drive more dangerously. the way i see it is, if you speed, you should expect to get a speeding ticket. when i speed, i know i am risking a ticket. plus, a cop can pull you over by pacing you or just based on their own judgment. your ability to fight it in court based on the lack of a radar/laser reading is a whole different topic. i had a radar detector before and yea it makes you feel a little bit safer but in my experience it never gave me a tip that would have saved me from a speeding ticket.
I have not gotten a speeding ticket (and i hope never to), and i try my best to obey speed limits now...speeding was something i used to do when i was younger but now i think it was pretty dumb of me and i feel lucky that i learned a lesson without suffering any consequences. please be careful!

I haven't gotten a ticket since 2001. Back then, I got 2 tickets within about 2 months; both of them were from local cops (and they were on motorcycles). The two times I got pulled over in subsequent years were both highway patrol (one in Oklahoma and the other in Texas). I got warnings from both of them.
A bit if difference between them though. When I got pulled over by the local cops, I was going 15 over the limit. When I got pulled over by the highway patrol, I was only going over the limit by 10.
Still, motorcycle cops are unforgiving, just like Constables. Luckily, I haven't been pulled over by a Constable as of now. (knock on wood!)

Speed limits are there for a reason, but attentive and defensive driving will always come out ahead of simply driving slow. I have seen some horrible drivers that are doing the speed limit (or under) and they are usually hogging the left lane, causing people to have to pass on the right.
The 75 year old woman that smashed my Fit a few weeks back was doing about 20 in a 35, but she decided to do the 0 - 20 run across the yellow line right into my front end, when I was stopped. Good for her for obeying speed limits...she shouldn't have even been on the road!

++++++++1!!!! stupid driving kills more than speeding. speeding isnt necessarily dumb but its not smart ALL THE TIME. speeding isnt a sin and ppl are such assholes about it and take it defensively and thats when ppl start driving offensively and running ppl off the road. if speeding was so bad then every car would have a speed limiter of 65 lmao. speed away speed demons, but remember there is a time and a place. in the wrong place, not only are u putting ur life in danger but others as well. thats the way i see it.

actually I just formulated the entire story in my head from an experience I had driving down the Kansas Turnpike. I was about 1/4 mile behind the three-car pileup!
