With intake headers and exhaust on a 5 speed with stock all-seasons, in heavy snow I find it hard to accelerate at any pace above extremely light throttle, and even starting in 2nd I spin tires like crazy. During one of the big storms up here in CT I even recalled spinning tires in 4th gear just accelerating at around 35ish mph. Maybe I'm just spoiled and have high expectations as I used to have a 4x4, but even after that truck I had a 2wd pick-up that did better than my Fit does. Could also be my mods since I know SRI and the weapon*r headers help down low but I can't imagine it to be that big of a factor. My '06 civic with summer tires spun less than my Fit...

Regarding driving in the snow: there are 3 things that make it better/worse

1. Tires
2. Tires
3. TIRES!!!!

It's all about the type of tires you have.

for me, it depends on how much snow fall there is. if it's under 3inches
i just take my FitS 5MT with all season tires and im pretty much fine.
just keep the RPM's under the torque band, meaning under 2.5k when
accelerating.

when it snows more than 3" i just take my 06 LegacyWgn. can't beat
AWD.

I have Blizzaks on some other wheels and in snow everything is usually OK. I have to echo Arisenfury's comment on easily spinning the tires. Blizzkaks don't spin much in the snow, but in the wet you can spin them in 2nd or third. The Fit has a bit of a "touchy" throttle (probably due to the throttle by wire) and you have to apply gas a little slower than you may be used to. (I personally think the brake is a little touchy as well) I used to drive an AWD Subaru Impreza so I may be spoiled about just mashing the throttle in snow.

I live in Canada and this year has been absolutly cazy when it came to snow. We've ah no less then 20 in of snow and have seen very bad black ice and slush condtions. Personaly i had to change my stock tires since i do; city, highway & rural/country driving. I bought Dunlop M3 185x65 for my 14in rims. Now I did this because on ice and deep snow the stock tires didn't performe the way i wanted. But there are pro' to the stock tires, for starters they perform very well in slushy city street (the 175mm tire width cuts right threw and the tires seem to have just enought grip) now if your gonna do hwy driving please note that there is far less reponce at higher speeds.
So to recap; if you drive in the city you'll be fine with the stock tires. And if you do a lot of pasing or drive in the country, it might be worth while to spend a little cash on winter tires.
p.s. I +1 my winter tires for a bigger contact patch on ice (from 175stk to 185 winter)
p.p.s. I bought my Dunlops at The Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels & to my door delivery cost me +/- 360$
p.p.p.s As fo the new fit if you can wait for the new redesign (jdm look) the engine has been modified to give better performance & fuel economy, so your call.

Anyways hope this helps!

Haha, so we got 3 inches or so over the weekend, and since my stock tires are at about the end of their rope, I got stuck going up a relatively minor hill in it. Plus I had all my heavy sound equipment in the backseat/trunk area, taking weight off the front wheels. I've found that in a car like the Fit, that really makes a difference.

Question #2 - Would the next generation FIT be any better, if the present generation is wanting.

Thank you,

Just wondering, what did you hear that's so bad about the Fit in snow?
