I see 40 mpg almost everyday! It happens on a mile long slight downward inclined stretch of road with a posted speed limit of 45 mph. Unfortunately, the rest of my drive is not as forgiving, so by time I get to work, the mileage has dropped to between 32-33 mpg!

I have found that 45 mpg seems to result in the best fuel economy. Now, if there would just syncronize the 39 traffic lights between my house and work, so that I'd hit them all green, I'd get awesome mileage!

get a scanguage. It sounds to me like you are shifting too early. Like its actually more fuel efficient to shift from 1st to 2nd at around 3k. It puts a lot of strain on the engine if you shift earlier. I was shifting at around 2500 when i first got it and my gas milage wasn't too spectacular, after my scanguage told me that it was better to ride it out a little more, I have seen mad improvements of my mpg's

Yes that's what I was thinking, I notice when I drive out a little more. I can get better gas mileage. right now I'm on my new filled tank. I'm experimenting on results but it looks like I can get better gas mileage without hypermiling or shifting very low/early.

If you are getting better mileage without hypermiling techniques then you've been doing it wrong.

Applying various hypermiling techniques when each is most useful gets me 6-10 MPG over standard driving per tank.

Hypermiling is NOT just for hybrids at all.

Take a good look at Section II and III on this link:

I averaged 32-36 MPG with entire stock setup. I added a modular SRI and my first tank of gas yielded 30 MPG. The second tank gave me 37 MPG. And my current tank of gas is sitting at 94 miles and it is about to hit the half full line. EEK!

There is another thread on here that talks about "Top Tier Gasoline" and that might have something to do with lower end MPGs. I have not paid attention to what fuel I am putting in as much as how much the fuel costs. I think I am going to get away from that and stick to using Chevron or Shell.

I do hypermile, but my commute is like a 5 minute drive all down a really curvy steep hill (otherwise i would walk) which i average 99999mpg for the most part according to my s.guage. But on the uphill i only average like 13 bec i must drive slow uphill(its curvy remember) and i have to keep my momentum (but i really dont do a lot of highway driving therefore my mpgs arent so great. I normally average around 29-32 in city, and i do apply a few hypermiling techniques and that helps a lot, plus ive only had my car since jan and its been cold and snow has been down for a lot, so my car is typically idleing at 1500 and i often have to drive extra slow if there is snow on the ground, also 10% ethanol during these cold months.

38 mpg is good for sure, but I'm not sure I'd say "freakin' phenomenal." I say this because my 1996 Civic 5MT got about 36 mpg or better (and once got over 40 mpg, but that was on the downhill leg of a trip through Colorado after filling up at the peak) on road trips. Ten years later and only a few extra mpg doesn't seem like enough of an increase to me.

I managed to squeeze 50 MPG when the car was 2 days old. It was a lot of motorway driving. The sales broucher said you could get 50 MPG but I was not to sure if it was possible. Normally around the town and on short trips I get between 40 -43 MPG.

I usually average 36.5 mpg on my daily 60 mile commute! It's mostly highway driving. I don't keep my foot out of it in the city portions (about 10 miles worth), but i do stay conservative on the open roads.

well, yes the trans does matter (mine is an auto, so of course 38 mpg is great )

i had an '88 CRX that got well over 40 mpg every fill-up. so 20 years ago they were even more on the ball.

All stock here. Heck, I still have the original oil in mine. Tires are at 50 PSI, mostly for ride. Anything in the 30s was way too soft for me. I'm trying to drive a honda not a buick.

Also a very important thing for mpg is a/c. With the Scanguage I can see that I lose about 4-5mpg when I use a/c.

Stock here and not broke in. Well I do have 45psi in the tires.
PS It's not the car it's the driver
