How in the world is everybody getting 50.05+MPG?

New high for me for sure, but here's the answer
Filled up today (short fill) as I'm traveling from West Palm to Gainesville to the NHRA Gator Nationals midday and wanted to just roll on the FLA T-pike.

213 miles
4.255 gal

50.05mpg

Not trying to be a smart ass, but this was not fudged. I knew when I was 165miles at 3/4 tank as opposed to 120 on a 41mpg last tank, I was on a roll. I also realized even thought I filled like always...
  1. Automatic pump shut off at full flow than
  2. one more Auto shut off that last maybe 1 to 2 sec....
I must of sent more GAS in the tank than normal. That said, it will avg out on this fill or already on last fill. I'm 100% sure of that.

I will say my Scan gauge read 44mpg on the short tank.

Also I was way more aggressive on shutting it off the eng, on any wait more than 30sec and 1 sec drafting at Freeway speed. Perhaps at 1600 miles on my Fit the eng and drive train have loosened up some as well.

I'm going to see, smell and feel some 7,000+ HP Top Fuel Cars Friday. Ahaaa The smell of Nitromethane in the morning

I am so jealous (with my measly 32mpg average). I've considered shutting it off at intersections but just haven't gotten motivated enough yet. My husband does it in his yaris. It just looks to me like it takes some of the joy out of driving (but then so does $4 or $5 a gallon gas, too.

Just asking but I'm afraid too much shutting off and restarting over the long haul will lead to premature starter wearing out, am I wrong?

Perhaps, but on my 56 mile round trip commute a day, I'd estimate no more than 10 total including the one that has to be made.

I started doing this after watching how fast the Scan X-Gage shows the hard earned Trip avg-mpg goes down sitting idling eating 0.25 to .035g/hr.

It's like a tenth of a mpg every 10 sec or so and that stops with eng off.

tank after freak one was on my 1st long trip.

402.2 miles
9.448 gal

41.98mpg

Pretty sure this is good as I'll ever see on a 90% Freeway trip at 65 to 70mph with hyper-milling used.

Scan gage for the day was 43mpg 57mph avg

I'll be filling up later this weekend on the return leg of above trip up north. I'm at 250 miles and 1/2 tank

I'm on about my 6th tank now, and commute 13 miles to work each way in LA, through 33 stoplights each way. I get 29 mpg every fillup.

...How in the world is everybody getting...

51.8 MPG ?
To Wawa: 47.8 battling a cold engine and a 15-20 MPH headwind, but dowhill.
Back from Wawa: Tailwind, warm engine, but uphill.

Currently 371 miles with 1/4 tank remaining.

Looks like Rich found a nice long hill hee heee

I will be watching your average on cleanmpg.

My last fill using the same fill method was more gas added than normal and it kicked the avg down to 40 for the tank. I saw 75miles today to the F mark and that means this tank will show better mpg. SG is always in the 41 to 42 for my commute.

Been messing around trying some things. Tried brisk acceleration up to speed.
