S sound system

So how is this 200 watt sound system in the S model? Is there a sub in it?

Theres no sub, theres a tweeter and a midrange in the front doors and a midrange in the rear doors.

I have no complaints about the stereo so far, my only upgrade at some point in the future will be nicer speakers all around

I think its pretty good.
It works for me. I see no reason to upgrade anytime soon.

If you add a small sub to the stock 6-speaker system it will sound pretty good.

That and cross over the stock speakers so they don't get the low range and you've got a decent sounding cheap upgrade.

Sorry to jump on this thread but can someone take a picture of the doorcard on your fits so I can see where the tweeters are mounted as I'm hopefully gonna get some components soon but we don't have a standard mounting place!

You can see the tweeter in the top corner of the door. From Honda's site...

Can the stock head unit be replaced with a DD one? And can anyone tell me what the speaker size is front and back?

it's a stock radio. the speakers are stock speakers. i plan to upgrade both the headunit and speakers someday, but have no plans in the near future. ive read that it's more of a difference to upgrade the headunit than the speakers.

It sucks... but that's to be expected on a car in this price range.

Yes. You'll need either the scosche or the metra kit, though. You can get the metra kit from crutchfield. I think CF is the only one that carries it, actually. You can fit a double-din and the speakers are 6.5 all around.

I'm going to be replacing my head-unit first with Alpine Type-X components in the front and some decent coaxials for the rear, I'm thinking just some Type-R coaxials will do just fine. For now I'm going to run without an amp, just to see if I can bear it, otherwise I'll power the fronts.

I don't really want to mount anything in the back nor do I want a sub, I bought the fit to have space after having NO space in the hatch of my eclipse thanks to my 15" RL-p, Viper d1200.1 amp and eD nine.2 amp plus my crossovers back there.

IMO, though, from playing the stereo during my test drive, while I think it's a really cool looking stereo, the sound quality just isn't there at all, I don't think it even gets loud enough for my liking.

The upgrade to S is more for the ground effects, spoiler, alloy rims, cruise control, and aux port(which you can route to from the back of an aftermarket unit).

Plus you can probably use the stock tweeter locations for aftermarket ones :-D

Right now I have 5 1/4" Polk component speakers in the front doors of my Yaris and am planning on replacing the crap Pioneer 6X9's in the deck to 6 1/2" Polk components. I have a big sub box in the trunk but if I get a lift back I'll switch to one good sub with amp to save room.

honestly i dont think the stock sound system is all that bad. I dont see a reason to change it anytime soon. Ofcourse some more bass would always be nice, but bleh that can wait.

I think it sounds pretty good for a stock system. I plug my ipod in and the quality is tons better than the radio haven't tried any cds yet. But, I can't complain it works for my need s don't need to be thumping down the road or nothing.

yeah man, check out the ice forum for a DIY aux.

and for $350 you can probably get a $300 stereo and a metra kit.

So budget around 275-300, but you have PLENTY of options. Check out caraudio.com and see what they say. Just stay away from walmart brands ;x
((plus nearly 99% of all aftermarket headunits will probably come with an auxilary port in the back, which you can just make your own aux port by hooking up some 5' RCA male to male cables with a femaleRCA -> 1/8" stereo jack cable that you can route around your passenger side and just hook up your mp3 player that way(if you want a cleaner job just get longer cable and go under the carpet.))

and I have to add, I'm not your average music-listener. Just because the quality of the stock stereo isn't good enough for me doesn't mean it won't be for you. I'd consider myself an audiophile, my last car stereo system was well over $2500 and it would have been far more expensive than that if I had the change! So, maybe my opinion should be ignored in this case ;-P

I'm not an audiophile so I think the stock Sport system sounds great! I had an Infinity system (6.5" rears, component and tweeters in the front) in my 2002 Civic and I think the Fit speakers sound just as good. Speakers have a nice little thump, highs could be a little higher and midrange could be better, but like TOOL and Fitftw said, I don't see a reason to go through the pain of upgrading anytime soon either. To me it's not worth the money and hassle of having to worry about your car getting broken into.

I found the S stereo acceptable after playing with all the settings. In my specV I had a JL 1001, JL 4504, Alpine 7904, Boston Z6's, 2 JL 12w6v2's, Alumapro C.A.P., 3 boxes of dynamat extreme bulk kits, and all the best monster cable wires. I know what a $5,000 stereo sounds like and the S one sounds pretty good for a free one
