yea i checked out the DIY but i'm not very good with these things i feel im gonna screw up the car hehe. anyway since today was my day off i checked out a Fry's electronic store and i looked at a Sony Mx something with bluetooth and an AUX port for $169 and i was about to buy it but it turned out they didn't have the kit. but now that i see it i think it'd be better to buy the stereo online and have someone install it right? i checked out the CarAudio website and it looks good! and as for the kit i understand its a Metra 99-7278 right? i found one on ebay with cables included for about 80 bucks shipping included is this a good deal? what stereo do you recommend? well thanks in advance, and sorry for the long essay!

Sony is crap ;x

sorry. lol, but it really is.

pioneer, eclipse, and kenwood are pretty good.

but for your $350 budget.. let's say
$50 for install
$50 for metra kit(buy from crutchfield.com)
So we're at around a $220 headunit(to cover tax and shipping and all of that.)

So I'd check out...
Kenwood:
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X792 CD Players,MP3 CD Player
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X890 \RB CD Players,MP3 CD Player
www.OnlineCarStereo.Com - Wholesale Deals At Bargain Price
www.OnlineCarStereo.Com - Wholesale Deals At Bargain Price
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X791 CD Players,MP3 CD Player

Pioneer:
Pioneer Premier DEH-P690UB CD Players,MP3 CD Player
Pioneer DEH-P4000UB CD Players,MP3 CD Player

Alpine:
Alpine CDA-9884 CD Players,MP3 CD Player
Alpine CDA-9883 CD Players,MP3 CD Player

Eclipse:
Eclipse CD3100 - Eclipse MP3/WMA/CD Receiver

That ought to get you started, they're all good quality, just find one you like the looks of that has all you want(aux/usb/bluetooth/whatever).

I'd say they're basically right especially if you're talking speakers.

Sony - junk, ALL of it
Pioneer - Premiere labeled head units good, rest ok
Eclipse - head units ok, speakers no
Kenwood - head units ok, speakers no

I like Alpine the best for head units, but everyone has their personal favorite. I was a diehard Sony fan in the '80's and early '90's. Their newer stuff just isn't good.

Justification needed. I think the stock system is just fine for my needs. Midrange puts out enough bass that I've decided against getting a sub.

I buy all my gear at Crutchfield.com. Yes there are cheeper places on the web to buy but they send you everything you need; the wiring plug for your specific car, the Meta kit for proper dash fit, detailed installation instruction for your specific car...everything you need to put it in is included. I'm a klutz with this type stuff and I found it very easy to do.

crutchfield is a very, very reputable website. they DO provide great information, both on what you need, what you might want, and how to install it all, but it does come at a price. You can save hundreds shopping at other sites, it all depends on whether or not that information is worth it to you.

personally, i don't have the money to spare, so I buy from other websites. caraudio.com has a lot of websites with much lower priced equipment.

The bass is POWERFUL on SOME songs. It's weird. Some song's base is like *put put* but others is like a clear BOOM BOOM w/o rattling.

ahh, that's the ONE I would actually ward you away from. Websites, that is. I had some trouble with monies being charged/things not being in stock when they're supposed to be/being shipped wrong parts. So, I'd stay away from ikesound. However, onlinecarstereo, woofersetc, sonicelectronix, are very good. I think that would probably be a great headunit, I'd google the name of the unit and search for reviews.

Personally I've decided on the Eclipse CD3200( Eclipse CD3200 - Eclipse In-dash CD/Bluetooth receiver ) for myself.

If you get a single-din stereo you can put a Scangauge II in the other DIN slot( ScanGaugeII - Trip Computers + Digital Gauges + Scan Tool )

Has anyone pulled the stock speakers out? I haven’t actually looked at the stock speakers in my 05 Pilot but it was well known back in my S2000 days that the speakers were paper. We were able to get say a nice set of Polk 6" speakers to replace them and the stick Stereo would sound a hell of a lot better. Any news on what the stock speakers look like?
