Need tips on "Soupin Up" the Stock Sound System
Hello! To the Freak family. Another thorny issue i'm tossin around..while i would categorize the stock sound system in the my '12 Fit Sport as "decent", ive been thinking of upgrading the stock system as of late. What i dont want to do is drill more holes on the doors to add more speakers, has anyone upgraded their sound system (economically) without having to buy loads of hardware like the boom box or having to drill speaker holes anywhere ? If so what type model speakers/amps did you end up with and are you happy with it?
It may be worth mentioning that i basically listen to vintage music from the 50's/60's so i'm not intending to plow down the road with that all familiar BOOM BOOM BOOM beat, but, at the same time i do wanna up my game just a tad. So most of you know that vintage music is not HQ music of today, but at the same time, i do want to roll the windows and "proclaim my presence" every once in a while.
I'm not up on whats out there in terms of upgrading the speakers/sound system so im not sure if i need to get an amp and upgrade all/some of the speakers..obviously i am trying to do this on a narrow budget..so atleast if i know what i need, i may even try to find it used online.
As usual, your advice is cheerfully accepted.

PS If adding additional speakers is the most economical route then i do want to mention that i recently bought the cargo lid for my fit...maybe it can be mounted there since it would be easier to cut out holes on that flimsy material, just a thought.

I was in a similar situation when i did mine. I chose alpine 6.5" components matched with an alpone amp and ciikdntc be happier. (Cheap pioneer 290bt head unit). Only downfall is that you don't want to drill holes. It wasnt that bad but if you 100% don't want to then a coaxial speaker might be the best route. I have some infinity coaxial's in my rear doods now and they sounded much better than factory but don't come close to the alpine type R's. (Used them on my amp and off) Currently they are unplugged and just sitting in the resr ( I don't remember the exact resson) I recently picked up an 8" alpine type r for a little extra bass. It had plenty of thump which is what I didn't really want. I purchased a bass controller so i can adjust ot as needed but I will usually have it set low. I'm waiting for warm westher to install the sub permanently and make everything look clean. I did pick up a 2 farad power capacitor because I've already shortened the alternstor/battery from factory so I'm trying to save the new ones. Let me know if you have amy questions.

I replaced just the 4 6.5 speakers with some Rockfords 3 way for $75 total. I got them from Crutchfield since they give you the speaker connectors, speaker mounts, instructions and all that for free. It made the process super simple. You must get a slightly smaller speaker due to depth. Crutchfield does the math and gets you the right ones. I then just disconnected the little ones up on the dash since too much trebile.
i left the stock deck. Decent power and won't get ripped off. I use a EQ program on my phone and a old school headphone cable.
I also got some kilomat sound proofing that I added behind the speakers and some extra on the doors and truck. Helped a lot.
Overall sounds pretty good .for sure miles beyibe stock.

Car audio upgrades recommendations are not that easy. I've heard a $10,000 car with a $100,000 system. And a $100,000 car with a $10,000 system and everything in between or beyond.
The simple upgrade guide on Crutchfield is actually pretty good as to the step progressions.
I sometimes listen to 50's and 60's music too. They may not have the bass of today's music, but you want to be able to hear the vocals and instruments clearly to appreciate it for a start.
Car audio upgrading is also hard because there are so many factors that come into play such as your listening position, materials used in the interior (causing sound reflections) and car design blocking sounds (steering wheel).
I can only suggest the Crutchfield guide as a sound method to start.

Couldn't find the exact article i.e. change speakers, then head unit, then add 4 channel amp and bridge the rear channel to run sub with door speakers, then go to 4 channel amp for doors and amp and sub....

Before doing any of that, turn on your music and then stand outside the car. Is any of it leaking out? (hint, yes) So consider if you might want to first take measures to prevent sound coming IN when the tires are rolling.
If you are satisfied with the stereo sound when the car engine is off, then that is all you need. If not, then upgrades are warranted and as you can tell you have many good choices 😊

Guys- I'm still grappling with what i should do..as i mentioned before, i listen to vintage music 50's/60's so most of the music i slice from podcasts etc, so its not the modern HQ sounds you might expect, and i want to use my android as opposed to investing in any onboard computer..is there a simpler/cheaper way to soup up ?
