If the name FIT is out of the question, maybe Honda will be digging back into the music theme, ie. Jazz, Aria, Prelude and Accord. A possible good name for the FIT for North American market would be Honda Dolce or Verse.

Latest rumor is that the Fit will be coming in mid-2006 as an early 2007 model.

Remember what Honda CEO Takeo Fukui said at the mid-year summary report release: the first US-market Honda Fits will be sourced directly from Japan in Spring 2006. Given the strong rumors Honda will introduce the second-generation Honda Fit in May 2006 for the Japanese domestic market, I personally think Americans will get the second-generation Fit model.

I've heard rumors that the the R-series engine block used on the 8th-generation Civic due Fall 2006 will fit (pun not intended) in this new model, so don't be surprised that the US-market car will use a smaller-displacement R-series engine (probably rated at 120 bhp SAE certified).

hey, you got a very good point of view there....LOL

btw, it's not second generation of fit....it'll be second year of Fit....LOL....Fit/Jazz definitely not five years old yet to be considered a new generation...

back to what you're saying, it's possible that american market of honda Fit might be equipped with the new R-series 1.8L engine!

it's rated 140HP for the new 8thgen Civic sedan =)

if that's true, that'll be amazing!

Whatever motor will be dropped into the US FIT, I bet it will be SOHC. It doesn't look like a DOHC motor can "fit" in the FIT?

The 1.2 liter engine has been discontinued by Honda now. I can only venture a guess, but my dime is on the 1.4 iDSI engine w its 83bhp and maybe the 1.5 SOHC VTEC version.

well, DOHC i-VTEC is possible to be on Fit...

but.....even in indonesian market, they only have SOHC VTEC....

the best thing would probably i-VTEC 1.8L R-series to be on the new Fit!!

About time, the civic is nice but I want a budget car that will last. Funny thing is, I'm in Canada and I have the Honda Jazz scooter. I would like to know what Honda plans to call the Fit/Jazz when it gets here. Why does Honda make us wait for all the real cool stuff???

In the USA the scooter is called the Metropolitan.

It's probably because they crossed up all the names and couldn't remember if they happened to name a scooter after the car and such.

I don't care what they call it. Just bring it to Canada already!!

Fuel Economy

I just hope Honda emphasizes fuel economy for Canada with the Fit. We are not all street racers with money to burn. As for the ability to keep up with highway traffic, I doubt that the Fit with any of its engines would have a problem. I was passed by a Smart car the other day doing over 135 km/h!! I also recall owning a 1980 Honda Civic Wagon with a 1.3 liter engine. It got 50 mpg and would cruise along at 75 mph all day loaded down with 5 adults and luggage packed to the roof. We don't need a small car with a 1.8 liter engine that gets less than 40 mpg.

I agree. Currently I'm driving a '02 Civic Si and I'm looking for something that gets better MPG. Like you I'm hoping for 40+ mpg; but I'm pretty sure that Honda will go with something comparable to the Scion xA/xB, meaning mid-low 30's.

It'd be nice if Honda offered a base model and a "sport" model with a 125hp motor or something, sort of like they did with the Civics (EX or Si).

Hence my suggestion for a reduced-displacement R-series engine block derived from the R18 engine used on the 2006 8th-generation Civics. Given the possibility the US/Canadian market Fit will be the second-generation model (the arrival date for USA/Canada is about the same time Honda introduces the second-generation model, if current rumors are true) a Fit with a R16 engine using the same SOHC i-VTEC valvetrain technology of the R18 engine is probably not a far-fetched idea; it would certainly generate about 115 bhp (SAE 8/04 net) and sport fuel economy more akin to that of the 1.4-liter i-DSI I-4 engine.

1.2 still selling in the UK, due to us having smaller engines anyway etc.

Or is it also the fact that in Europe new automobiles are subject to excise taxes on engine displacement? It's possible that the Jazz sold with the 1.4-liter i-DSI engine has more excise taxes imposed on the car at time of sale....

I saw this post, and I registered immediately. Best Motoring videos of Spoon Fit + this post = new car for me in 2006! I wonder how many people are gonna be ripping them stock motors out within the first year they get them. It's gonna be the new 92-95 Civic in terms of Hybrids

^+1. I am not a huge import guy, but I am actually pretty excited about this ride coming to the US.

I am not even remotely attracted to the Chevy Aveo, but this Fit looks fantastic!

The Fit kills all of the other cars in its class.
