save more gas. it keeps a constant flow of gasoline....from what i understand.

pssh im to lazy to use the pedal anyways. i cruise control about 85% of the time i drive. especially if its an area that is highly known for cops to hang around.

i even do it at 40 mph haha

I went on a highway trip the first weekend after I got my Fit, and I got in the low 30s using cruise control. MPG getting better, though!

The only time cruise control won't help you is if you're on a highway going up many many hills. It will always compensate to maintain speed and that will use up more gas than just keeping the pedal in one spot and losing speed going up hills.

yea... if you're on lots of hills, CC will not be as efficient because it will maintain a constant speed. let the speed drop off going up hill and put it in neutral (or disengage the clutch) (yes, i know, some people say this is illegal...) and coast downhill... far better MPG than CC

CC will get you better milage, but don't do it until you have at least 3K miles. why? i don't know, but that's what the dealer told me.

your bad mileage is probably attributed to your automatic transmission

It's great and better than a human if you drive on flat land at constant speeds. No matter Atyo or manual tranny. If hills are involved, even an over-pass, it's worse than a eco minded human.

The problem with all cruse controls is they aggressively mashs the gas to maintain the MPH set point. That wasts fuel for sure......If it could be adjusted to less aggressive or to maintain manifold vac (not speed) it would be way better for eco purposes.

I normally use mine but kick it off when approaching a hill and let the speed fall off on the up hill side and catch back up on the back side.

This is verified with SG info.............

mmmm......interesting information. I have hills big enough that if I just let off the gas I would not make it to the top, even starting at the speed limit of 60mph. I use CC all the time on my trip to work with hills, going up and down, and I have still managed to get 43 mpg. I guess it just takes more practice to not use CC going up hills. I understand that if you accelerate going up hills that kills mpg but if you can maintain the speed with your foot, better than CC, then one would obtain better mpg. Going slow up hills annoys me and I am sure it would piss off people behind me too.

Looks like you are all set

One last comment or so
Your Fits Cruse control will maintain speed +/-1 mph with aggressive use of throttle on hills.
Human speed control can do the same, but +/-5 mph (OR more) with less aggressive throttle control.

Conservation of energy.
The fuel used going up a hill is not gained back going down. Never. The more you work the throttle doing that work, the larger the net fuel used will be.

I think this little point gets lost in this Eco area all the time.......
It all gets down to what driving style changes the owner is willing to make in order to get better fuel usage per mile driven

If you are using cruise in D you'll waste gas as it tries to keep up to set point and shifts a lot. Use it in Sport mode and it gets better mpg cause there's much less shifting.

Remember, S mode locks out 5th gear when not using paddle shifters. If you are using cruise control on a relatively flat area, you will save gas.

That's BS, I consistently got 32 mpg starting with the first tank of gas on my base AT. Until I put on the OEM alloys and screwed up my odo that is.

5th ins not locked out on my Fit in Sport mode. The reason Sport gets better gas mileage is shifting only occurs when I want (unless I exceed rpm limits top or bottom) instead of when it feels like it. All that extra shifting wastes gas. And in Sport mode cruise works just fine.

I live in the lowcountry of South Carolina. Very flat. The only "hill" we have is one of the bridges in town. Having said that, people driving behind me get annoyed at how much I slow down going over that bridge. For that reason, I tend to do cruise. I had a feeling it was not fuel efficient while climbing hill, bridges.
