I haven't even put gas in my new FIT yet. But I'm using that MPG indicator, AS an indicator of my driving habits. I'm letting it show me what I need to do. Sort of like the outside gas and/or electric meters. Although those are accurate.

I get constant feedback from the car, based on what I'm doing. I can constantly compare what I do instantly. For instance, I have let the car warm up a little bit while putting on seat beat and or rearranging my butt in the seat.

I'm learning not to do that. Why? Because I noticed that the average MPG will tick down. Of course I'm using gas while sitting there, but SEEING that I was losing MPG in a physical manner is making that click in my brain for the first time, since I've been driving.

Being at a long light the other day. Watching the MPG tick down. Everyone, get out of my way, I'm burning fuel!!!

I did mention this before, that if you fill up, and reset the MPG average, and were to sit there, idling, it won't go less than zero. You're still using gas, right?

Extreme example would be to use half your tank, idling. Then to drive off and get 50 mpg, according to the indicator. But when you do the hand calculation, it would be completely off. It would look like you got half the mpg, right? Because, on average, you DID get half the miles per gallon.

Anyway, if there is a problem with the accuracy, and everyone is experiencing it, we need to let Honda know, so there can be a recall and the problem can get fixed. Or maybe Honda needs to make an announcement that further explains how this mpg indicator works.

Because if it is inaccurate, well, what kinds of troubles could we get into if the gas gauge was off 10%? Like running out of gas all the time? Or the speedometer off 10%, we'd get tickets, for going too fast or too slow.

We count on those instruments to be accurate. There is no reason we should accept an instrument that is very off, if it is indeed, very off. Right?

For all the griping about this little gauge (which is not required equipment), it does in principle work for training driving habits.

And 39.33 mpg is pretty darn good!

The gauge on my 09 Sport says 40.0 mpg but my calculator tells me I am getting about 33 mpg. Sometime it is fun to watch the bars on the gauge go up and down. I have noticed that the bars will usually shot up if you are going down hill and when you are drafting behind a tractor trailer, a pickup truck and a mini-van. It is fun looking for that sweet spot when you tuck in behind a larger vehicle on the highway.

Yes, it is a great tool. But I also have a 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid and the Avg MPG gauge on that car is very accurate, and when its off its only slightly below the actual (around 1mpg below actual)

Yes they are super easy to install! I plugged mine in, modified the BlendMount to fit my rearview mirror, changed the screen color and was in business in about 20 minutes, installing in the dark with a flashlight, and it was about 15 degrees out, super easy! Have ran about 8 tanks through it and have modified my driving habits and have started to see a MPG increase. Been able to go in excess of 300 miles a tank which isn't too shaby.
