08 Fit hard to get

I went back to the dealer I bought my Fit from in Feb with the FREE Oil change Coupon. Was talking to the salesman about things. He said they have zero in stock and the three on the way (on the BOAT) and allotted to Brahman have been sold and not even close to what I paid for mine. Said it's even worse for the Hybrid cars.

Not sure if this sample data point reflects the reality at other dealerships, but I thought it was pretty bad and directly lined to the cost of GAS.

Sure glad I picked up mine back in Feb when gas was a bargin at GULP $3.05/gal

My dealer had at least 17 in stock when I bought mine yesterday.
I got to choose between all models and colors.
So I picked a red one with a 5spd and A/C.

Vancouver Area

My dealer did not have the Blackberry Pearl/LX I wanted, so they had to get one from Vancouver Island. Taking about 5 days to get in and Prep.

Dealers in my entire area were out (5ish Honda dealers in the PDX metro area of 1+ million people). I had my name in at most of them for a Fit. I waited 3 weeks. They are all pretty much selling out before they arrive to the dealer.

I live in a rural location.
This may explain the large selection.

They are running in very short supply in Alabama. The dealer says they don't even last a week once they get off the truck.

I was surprised, but there seem to be plenty of civics on the lot even though those get better gas mileage.

I checked with most of the Honda dealers in Colorado before I found one that had a manual Sport in Grand Junction. None of the dealers I talked to would consider selling one for less than list (at least that's what they said). Picked it up two weeks ago and loving it.

When i bought mine in San Antonio 2 weeks ago, there was only 1 dealer that had any Fits at all. The one i bought (silver 08) and a base red one. They said that their inventory sheet showed 3 more coming but that they didnt even have a date as they hadnt even been built yet!

I went through the same thing, though one of the dealerships in south Denver finally was able to bring in the one I was looking for two weeks ago. I checked all over the state - very, very few M/T Sports available in CO!

Same situation in Vermont. I bought my MR Sport manual sight unseen. I called up the dealer, the salesman said they had finally been able to get one ordered (though he didn't know when it would arrive), and I put down a credit card deposit over the phone. After about a two-month wait, I picked up the car last month. I was told that's the way this dealer sells Fits -- they order them, and then the cars are sold before they arrive at the dealership. They said they were only able to get about two per month. The Fit is in great demand these days. And I doubt the situation will change, with the price of gas going up.

That said, the wait -- and paying MSRP -- was completely worth it. What an outstanding car. Drives great, looks good, very efficient use of interior space, comfortable seats. . . I made another post here about the mileage I got on a recent road trip: 43.1 mpg. My friends are astounded, and a bit jealous.

We put down a desposit nearly a month ago, and still have yet to even get a date for estimated delivery. We were told Honda made none in April, and if that's true I think it explains the really poor inventory right now. Couple that with the fact that demand is very high for them right now...

So much is unknown about the 2009 Fit, but if they plan to make them for Fall delivery this year and in the same factory in Japan, they will have to have an outage of some kind to reset the line. My guess is July or August will be the last '08's made.
Looks like if you want a NEW 08 Fit, you better get going as those days are ending soon. Or as was pointed out get one in Canada. Seems to be a different market there.

Around my area, I see alot more new Civics around than Fits. My dealership has actually had a MR Sport 5 speed since last november. It still sits in the showroom. DX/LX's sell better than Sports here.

Nope. The Fits are well suited to our snowy winters.
Light, front drive and a set of snow tires = bliss.

Getting an 08 Fit

I waited about a week for mine to arrive (off the boat from Japan). My 08 Nighhawk Black, Sport, Auto. I love it !!! Worth the wait. Base price of $16,500.

There are about 5 in southern NM. We always have a few laying around. On a normal day driving around in my town of about 40,000 people, I see a half dozen Fits. Mostly older people getting them for the fuel economy, not younger people getting them for the fun. Oh well.
