I was pretty dissapointed with the quality of the folding version. It comes in 2 pieces, the pillar support that sticks into the rear ash tray spot and then the armrest itself. The arm rest is decent, it's just the support is cheap plastic and can be broken by one person unfamiliar with the product trying to push it out of the way. Regardless though, I think it was only $50 compared to the $100+ for the fixed one.

If you go on the Australian Fit sites you can find a Jazz sliding armrest - it looks pretty cool - but I don't see a supplier for the US market.

Thanks - that's a great idea. I think I'll use a variation of it for my next column. I want to talk to some Honda experts and see what they think. For instance, I find with the paddle-shifters I can get the car in higher gear at lower rpms than the shifting logic and I think this helps my mpg - but I see that folks are divided over whether this is a better technique.

Next column

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback to the column so far. I'm jazzed that you like them. I've got more in the works and am looking to feature more parts, ideas and manufacturers.

The idea about hypermiling techniques is a great idea. I think I'll use a variation of it for my next column. I want to talk to some Honda experts and see what they think.
