Keyless entry, hard to add?

I have a Canadian LX, which comes with power locks.
Can I buy the remote entry and add it myself?
Is it a factory item??

it;s probably not too hard if you take it back to the dealer. you'll pay more, but you won't have to do anything! wha-BAM!!!

Yes and Yes. I added it to my USA base Fit in about 20 min. The Honda keyless is made to plug directly into the vehicle wiring - no splicing required. The frame already has a hanger welded in to hold the box. Highly recommend. I got mine from collegehillshonda. There are a one or two other discount Honda internet places that have this mod for around 90-120USD.

I also put the Honda fogs on. Those run a little more - just over $200. There are lots of posts on both of these from other forum members if you do a little digging.

Excellent.
I will order it and install it myself.
Running to the car in the pouring rain last night made we wish for a remote entry.

I am interested too, what kind of tools and level of handiness is required to do this? I'm no shade tree mechanic and I really don't have much in the way of tools but I can follow good directions.

Download the instructions here:

http://www.collegehillshonda.com/ins...it/keyless.pdf

The pdf file lays out the whole deal. I think anyone who can turn a screwdriver or a wrench could do this. The only hard part is finding the connector above the fuse box. It's buried up there amongst the wires but it's the only connector up there so you can't get it confused with something else.

Didn't you then have to go to a dealer to have him activate the new key's keycode?

Here's my attempt to revive this old post for more info. Has anyone done this recently who can provide me with a link to the parts they ordered to do the conversion?
