Considering it all (mileage, price, other pros & cons) would you buy the Fit again?
Considering it all (mileage, price, other pros & cons) would you buy the Fit again?
Hi folks,
First time poster and potential buyer. I've been lurking for awhile on this forum and have read a lot of your opinions about this car.
It seems like a really fun car that makes economic sense (even compared to the leading hybrids ) considering cost of ownership. I've read several posts lately that complained of peeling paint (a lot of posts..) and A/C issues. These posts have me a little concerned and my initial enthusiasm has lessened a bit over the car.
So, I'm wondering if you could do it over again, would you buy the Fit or would you buy something else? Please feel free to elaborate. I'm all ears, er eyes, actually, I guess....
Best Regards,
Landmizzle

Hey Land,
Welcome to the site.
I believe you will get all affirmative answers to your question, for two reasons.
1. This is a Fit forum, and the people here are mostly enthusiastic about their cars. We love the Fit around here.
and
2. The Fit is a great car. Check out the things written about it all over the Web. Car and Driver, Consumer Reports, all the usual suspects. They all compare it favorably above the Scion xA (no longer produced), the Mazda 3, The Nissan Versa, The Toyota Yaris, and of course the Chevy Aveo and that Suzuki whose name escapes me. Considering its standard features, it's a better deal than any of those.
Buy one. Hell, buy two. I would if I could.

Yes, I would, however, I'm going to buy mine in Thailand and ship it home. I want the rear discs and 7 speed CVT.
As a gofer car the Fit is nearly unbeatable and is so far ahead of Versa and Yaris its not even comparable. The Versa may have vroomier back seat and as good gas mileage with their CVT but it drives like my fathers 1980 Oldsmobile. The Fit drives like it was designed for drivers.

Another likely buyers thoughts
I don't own a Fit yet, but it is the most likely vehicle to replace my Mazda 3. I have taken everything into account (payment, insurance, gas) and find it to be a significant savings, while still being a reasonably fun and useful car.
I would consider the Suzuki SX4 only for AWD, but it doesn't have the mileage I want to get, and the closest Suzuki dealer is 30 miles away. The Yaris is really ugly (sedan looks better than the hatch, but still bad), and I'd really never consider a Versa, or an Aveo.
Having just picked up my 2008 Honda Ruckus to commute on this summer, I'll be selling my Mazda 3 and waiting on more info about the '09 Fit to come out (pricing, options, etc). If there is any significant price increase I'll try to snag an '08, if the price is the same and mpg is worse in '09 I'd try to get an '08...but if the price is near the same and mpg is the same or better (as it seems it will be), I'll ride my Ruckus until the weather won't let me anymore then pick up a 2009 Fit. I don't like the way it looks (hoping black will look better than the reds I've seen), but with the upgrades it might be worth waiting, especially if you're feeling apprehensive about the current model.

welcome to the forums!
the fit is a great great car. So take my post with a grain of salt.
i was in a situation with a more expensive to service car, and because of the negative equity i had on that car, i was forced to get something in the fits price range.
had that not been the pre-tense, i proably would have gotten a gti or a mazda 3 hatch, or even a decked out civic.
but for its class, the fit simply cannot be beat.

i would definitely buy another fitbecause for the price, it's a fantastic package.
the ONLY reason i would pass on one again is because i personally have had several paint issues and am finding it a hassle. but overall the car is great, and i can't picture myself in another hatchback that's not a fit

Yes. Not because its a Fit, but because its a Honda. It's economical, and its a great daily driver that gets me to and from work. There are other brands out there, but unless they come out with something revolutionary, I will stay with the Honda brand when looking to an economical and fun daily driver.
hell yes i would but it again..i love how it has so many after market parts available for it..i love the way it looks and girls so do to...i had three other options and that was civic si...parents said to much hp and then Subaru impreza and Mazda 3...all too fast..for them...so i saw this one and its power and actually test drove and was completely amazed how fast and quick it was for only having a 109hp and now i'm getting my supercharger so i should be quicker and still stay economically safe
..so i would buy it agian and agian

Yes!
I would buy another if I had the means to do so. What a fun car to drive! I only have 2k on mine....and I can't hardly wait to get behind the wheel. I have gotten between 29 to 40 mpg....it is entirely dependent upon your driving style. I love my Hoshi!
My wife and I almost did last Saturday. The ONLY reason we didn't get another fit, and we got the 08 Accord, was because we wanted something that we could put a small hitch on to take the bikes to the beach with.
I have only had mine for a few months now, but I would definitely buy again. The gas mileage is great, the magic seats a truly magic in how they utilize space, it is fun to drive, and the price is right.
It was easily, and still is, the best car in its class and the only B-car that completely suited my families needs.
It's got enough trunk space to handle anything within reason, and the "magic" seats have really proven to be a great asset.

510, as in Datsun 510? Ooooh, ahhhhh.
Which brings me to my answer to the prospective buyer's question. The reasons I bought a Fit.
1) Bang for the buck. Right now nothing beats it. Hybrids, puhleeze, $5k premium doesn't work even at these gas prices + the Shrub kickback.
2) Fun factor. Fit is go. I like -- no, I love -- to drive. I'm way older than most folks on this forum and in these cars, and I have driven a metric buttload of cars and trucks over the years. This car is fun, and it is fun on many levels.
3) It's a Honda.
If I could have waited for the next gen I would have, because there's a new Fit just around the corner and because Honda "gets" that paying $5k for a battery pack and some electronic doodads is, well, un-American. And if I could get a taller final drive for, oh, less than a thousand dollars, I would, but only because I do a heap of driving on roads where 65MPH puts a person in the "GTF out of my way" lane. But would I buy one again? Yep.
And that, as much as anything else, is why. This car makes me smile. It is the first Honda I have ever driven that has a soul.
