55-mph Speed Limit?
#41
i know... it's just frustrating. my commute is interstate 80 so there are a lot of passers by, people on their way to new york city. i suppose i am better off doing 65. 55 would be great in a lot of ways though.

Cool that you have a BOM sport with manual. I have a red one -- just love the color, it was my first choice all along. BOM was my second choice.

Fortunately my 94 mile commute home involves approx. 1/2 55 speed limit, and 1/2 65 posted SL.
I've found that 50 is my 'pain' threshold for speed in the 55 corridor. In other words, my slow threshold. Below that and I feel like an ass and have a feeling econo. wouldn't improve much.
I've found that in the afternoon, and in the 65mph corridor, I can safely do 55 - 60 mph, as there are a bunch of tourist and others running below the posted limit. In the morning however I feel safer at 60mph as many are pushing 70 - 75 (like I used to!).
Both corridors have "saftey corridor, Fines Doubled" signs posted. In my speeding days I would get a ticket 1x/year at 15 over that equated to $140! That's almost 4 tanks of gas!
I do agree that, like helmet laws, it should be up to the individual as to the speed limit he or she wishes to go <sic> up to the current posted limits.
Unfortunately I'm afraid all we'll get is a bunch of bitching about gas prices and no concern for econo. "Reduce the use" and potentially saving thousands a year is lost on so many. BUT! If you want to burn, and have the $'s to pay for it, DO IT! That IMO is freedom.
