CT dealer upsetting my wife

My wife and I have decided to purchase a Fit. We went to our dealer and finalized a deal. We are due to pick it up on the 17th. My wife has now been called for ridiculous upgrades and a loan through Honda. We politely said we are going through our credit union and politely rejected the offer. They would not stop until my wife got upset. The latest just happened the same lady called my wife and told her the car will arrive a few days early and wanted to sell her a simonized wax job for 499.99 to warranty the paint. They told her they put a special clear coat over the paint to warranty the surface. I am now talking to my wife to nix the deal and look somewhere else in CT. We really want the Pearl Blue and wanted to stay local but I think I might have to look elsewhere. I feel now that I can’t trust them.

What dealer are you at? I've had some mixed experiences with Hoffman, but I have Bradley Hoffman's email if you want to email him over a complaint.

The sales experience over at Hoffman was ok, the service department I would avoid like the plague.

Hmm, haven't heard much if anything about them. I can vouche a bit for Hoffman, I've bought two new cars from them and they were pretty good to me, especially since I was only 19/20 at the time. They asked if I wanted a couple things to add on I said "no" and that was it. There's another member CT Mom who just got hers from Liberty Honda she said they were wonderful. Yeamans has visited Manchester Honda and said they seem to have all their stuff together in the service department at least. Firebat666 got his from Torrington and said they were great but his family has also been buying cars from them for a while and I don't think he went through a credit union.

It's no fun that you might have to look else where but you can always bring it to Torrington Honda for service, even warranty work. But you should never let a dealer take advantage of you or pester you. Sounds like they just want more money and won't be there for you after the purchase.

as ariesnfury said I got mine from torrington, no problems at all, but we have bought several cars from them, hoffman i have again had mixed experiences with, and liberty... well they were just jerks to my mom when she went to look at Fits, they were totaly disrespectful and treated her like "oh shes a women doesn't know nethign about cars" if torrington is being dumb, try hoffman, they usually are pretty good and my family has bought a few cars from them as well, we have just been using torrington recently because they give us better deals. good luck with the dealer issue, and if they are pestering you alot, contact hondas corperate office, that will get any dealer off your back...

I highly recommend Liberty Honda in Hartford. They seem to keep a few Fits on the lot and we stopped by to look on May 30, bought on June 2 and they didn't push us for any upgrades. We went to the "new owner's seminar" on July 8 and scored 2 free oil changes as well.

Sorry to hear. I walked away from purchasing a TSX years ago at Keyes Acura in LA because of the dealership being so pushy about getting me into the car. I was really excited about the car, too, because they had the one I wanted. They kept saying, "What can we do to get you in this car today?" I said, "How about backing off a bit and actually giving me a deal on the car?" (they wanted to charge me MSRP). The guy ignored my question and went back to pushing me to buy it. He even called his manager out to double-team me. Sheesh. I just got up, demanding my DL back and left. It took me a while to even want to be in anything Honda related after that.

I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience. I would definitely write a letter. As a manager/owner, if I had an employee that was making customers not want to come back, that's information I would want to hear.

I had a great experience buying my car but I also think all my tattoos tend to make people think I won't take any shite.

A lot of Honda Dealers are very arrogant. They know they have a hot product and act like they are doing you a favor for "letting" you purchase their car. I would tell them to shove it and look elsewhere. If you didn't ask for it, you shouldn't be forced to buy it.

We already put down $500 to reserve the car and it's arrived at the dealership so we'll stick with it. The salesman was actually ok, it was the business office chick who is a PITA. Pushy about the loan and the Simoniz System 5. Whatever. At least we got the car at a decent price.

I went to torrington honda to look around...and they would not budge on price at all. I ended up going to a dealer in NY and getting a great price.

I couldn't believe how small the torrington dealership was...they only had 1 fit there when i went

I got mine at Hoffman and had a good purchasing experience. I shopped a bit and they offered to beat Manchester Honda's offer by giving me $300 under MSRP, extended warranty, and 3 oil changes. Plus, they got the car to me in about 3 days through a dealer swap to NYC. I bought my car from Ray Ortiz who was really helpful, but he doesn't work at Hoffman anymore. I dunno how the other people are. The Toyota salesman was a total prick when we asked to test drive a Prius a couple years back.

I would also avoid their service department. Hoffman Toyota tried to charge my mom $550 for a tire rotation, oil change and fluids/bolts checkup. They wanted $250 for some surface paint scratches on my dad's Solara, which Valley Imports ended up doing for $20. Also, the Honda dept. asked $90 for a coolant flush/refill. Plus, the service department seems to have an attitude that all customers are dumbasses, which reflects in their treatment of customers and their pricing.

That was the treatment that I got when I took the car in for the wiring recall back when they scratched my door. They were acting all high and mighty, I asked them not to wash the car because I could see the porter washing the cars with a horsehair brush that would obviously leave swirls.

When I picked it up I wore my old Acura tech jacket, and their attitude changed completely seeing that I knew what I was talking about. My best advice to everyone is to ignore 90% of the bs you get from the service writers because if they truely knew anything they'd be in back working as a tech.

too funny. but i know wat you mean. when my wife went in
several years ago to get her civic's oil change done the f-king service
teller clerk person tried selling her not only the synthetic oil service which
was another $35, they wanted to re-balance the tires for $25, change
the air filter for $25 (i had already changed the filter), and do a 4wheel
alignment for $99.

she called me if the car needed those, i told her to let me talk to the
service advisor, told him wtf are you trying to do and asked to talk to his
boss, told his boss wtf are you trying to do, and ended up with a free
oil change.

Yup that is exactly how you have to handle it. Not sure why others are getting so upset when all you have to do is tell then to go F$$# them selves problem solved. I guess other states are just nicer people in general. You guys need to learn to be more of an a$$ Hole and don't let dealers run you around.

You can't trust any car dealer you don't know personally and maybe some of them.
Let's assume you have a signed sales contract and none of those things apply. Just refer them to the contract, state you will not have anything more, and hang up nicely. Never argue, fuss, or/and fight. You're just looking for them to fullfill the contract. In fact you may just call the GM and request, not demand, that you get any more sales piches. You can also contact AmHonda thru email on their website to document your request. And to your dealer thru his website.
Then talk to your local magistrate about what he can do to stop the calls. Note they do have the right to call until you find the calls harassment.

So strange... I've never had any issues with the Hoffman Service department. All my problems were in the sale's office. The service has always been really good to me, no problems what-so-ever the past two years between my Civic and now the Fit.
