Performance Air Filter Question

It's time to change my air filter, and I'm thinking about upgrading to a K&N or similar filter to improve performance. The overall goal, of course, is to boost MPG. From what I can find, the difference in price is about $20 b'twn that and a standard Fram air filter.

Anyone have any experience with this? Any comments on efficacy?

Thanks for your input.

There is a dude on h-t selling his for $20 shipped. Then just pick up a recharge kit.

I think they are worth it in the long run.

Just ordered a k&n filter. It should arrive in a week or so. I'll post an update after a couple tanks of gas.

This has been discussed before. It seems that an air filter will affect your mileage one way or the other depending on other conditions. Example : city VS highway driving that sort of thing, good luck with the filer. Oh one more thing the search button at the top will provide lots of information on this topic as it was dicussed once of twice before.

K&N's and Frams's racer equivalent whatever are OK if you're going racing but in normal traffic conditions they have little to brag about. The Fram street model filter at $4 or less will be more than capable. Thats our dyno talking; only at the upper reaches of rpm.hp does the comp air filters show any advantage at 1" pressure drop so unless you plan on running at 6000+ rpm just buy a good brand namr=e flter. The same goes for the oil filter. An HP-15 Fram comp filter (standard for Honda comp engines) does have an oil flow advantage over 4500 rpm but not really useful on the street.
And again there's that $10+ vs $4 difference in price.
PS the 1" dp is pretty standard for testing air filters in simulating street running conditions.

Only benefit you are going to get is the fact its the last air filter you will have to buy. You aren't going to see any noticeable improvement in MPG or power.

i went the k & n route because it'll last forever. i doubt there'd be a benefit in horsepower or fuel economy

lol, and I just went to oreily's and got a couple things of tubing, the sceptre filter n yea. Can get recharge kits for them to so whatevs. Sounds sexier than stock too.
If it's just for DD and nothing but normal drop in filter's fine...to me it wouldn't matter the brand/type. K&N is good I guess though being you can get the recharge kits for it but yea.

I want some of those stickers!

To the original poster: spend your money on quality gasoline instead of an over-advertised, under-performing air filter. You'll be doing your engine a huge favor.
