Take a gander at this BEIOTCHES!
Okay guy's, I know the title is a little over the top, and mods' I promise this is the last general MPG post I make outside of the AT Mileage post, but I'm pretty stoked. CHECK IT!

So I know it's really not that big of a deal around these parts for a 500 mile tank (even for an AT) but after that fun little rant that happened when I first joined this forum I'd thought I toss down a little.
The mileage:
502.5 miles
10.853 gals
46.3 MPG
1730 miles total on orig. oil
Now I know I can do 50mpg as I had a crappy head-wind, three trips into town (lite city), and one fast food stop. If I can manage to eliminate those and do what I've been doing I'll crack it.
Thanks for reading.

Thanks man. I lived in Honolulu in 93'. I commuted from Kahala (sp?) to Honolulu on my mtn. bike. It was faster than driving. I feel for ya' bro. Hey at least your in one of the most desirable places on the planet!

Must be nice to get those numbers!!! I just did my first oil change, running Royal Purple synthetic now, and got to do a little highway miles, and still only maxed out the latest tank at just over 28! Grrrrrr

IMO the friction differences cause by dino v.s. synth are negligible. Thus engine 'break-in' won't change by any measurable difference.
I hate changing oil, which is the reason I'm going to synth...extended change intervals (with that comes better shear longevity and additive longevity).
If I end up burning 0w20 significantly between changes I'll post up and switch to a 5w20 or 30. I hope I don't have one of 'those' Honda engines.

I changed my fit to synth at 3k and from my crazy driving i've gone from 33 mpg to 36 with just the oil change to synthetic.
so i'm all for synthetic ;-P
That may be true, but oil analysis is what shows the true story about a 7500 mile change.
This is my paradigm, but those who have done oil analysis (OA) at regular intervals typically show a significant loss of additives at the 7500 mile mark w/dino juice. The OA typically will show "okay for another 2k miles" but...
In the end it's what I'm comfortable with, and what I can afford. With the research I've done, I'm comfortable with 7k changes with synth and conservative driving. I'm comfortable with 5k changes and conservative driving with dino juice. The difference for me is 1.5 months that I don't have to climb under my car.
I also think changes are akin psychologically to how far your willing to drive with your gas gauge on E. If you do the math you know you've got approximately 2.4 gals left in the tank (Thanks Paul!) after the light comes on. BUT! after it does, many of us run to the nearest gas station. Why? You know you've got a good 60 miles left (if you get 25mpg +). It's psychological. Personally I start getting nervous after 50 miles on "E". Why?
Many of us were raised on advertising campaigns, and general opinon w/o doing our own research. This is especially true with the "3 months or 3k miles" campaign. This, IMO, is a conservative interval based on city/extreme driving conditions that greatly benefits oil change companies. Most are willing to accept this as fact with no emperical justification. Us hypermilers are not the 'norm', and I for one, am trying to break-out of my paradigm with extensive research and analysis. Blindly following the Fit's oil "minder" for me isn't enough.
also running your tank on empty can pick up deposits that have settled in the bottom of the tank (granted, prob not on a newer fit)
you get the same mpg if you fill up with 5 gallons left or with 1 gallon left, whats psychological is how high you can get you trip meter on one tank.

Good going! and in such a short time. It took me a while to get there - lots of bad habits to break.
I use to be scared to get close to the E on my trips to work - didn't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Now, I will ride until I find a good price.
As far as the oil, I am going by the car telling me when to change. I have about 9k on this 0w20 Mobile 1 syn and the oil like is at 20% and I am going to go ahead and change the oil this weekend so I won't have to change it during the week.

Hard to know what my avg. truly was w/o a scanguage or similar. That said, this tank was 60mph in a 65 and 55 in a 55 or when I felt particularly patient, I would punch in 50 in a 55. Drive is split 50/50 55 - 65mph.
On a 45 mile commute (one way) the split is 50/50 65 and 55 mph zones.
I do have approximately 6-7 miles of n-ICE off ability on the run (one way).
No Ethanol.
No A/C.

So are your saying your oil 'minder' is telling you that your oil is at 20% or is this from oil analysis? 9K miles at 20%...That would be 10,800 miles on one change. Which coincidentally, is what the guy's on bobtheoilguy site are saying is good for Mobil 1 0w20 in a 4 banger. That data is from true oil analysis btw.
So now that you've hit the 600 mile tank...60+mpg what's next?
on my eclipse we changed to synthetic at 3k, i got 25mpg in town, 33mpg on the highway and it dyno'd at 125hp stock(from 140bhp).

Did you keep the same viscosity?

Nice numbers.
My best is also 46.3, though I did not try to break 500 miles. I filled up at 460 miles.
I have 5,500 miles on my Fit and will be switching to AMSOIL 5w30 next weekend. I'll take a sample of the OEM oil to send into Blackstone as a base test. From there I'll be doing the once a year oil change like in my other 2 cars. I'll take a sample to verify the oil.
