Thinking about buying a fit.

Initially I was crazy about getting a Yaris. Everything seemed so right, price, fuel economy and utility but now after researching the fit I think I might have changed my mind.

Yaris > Fit

Fuel Economy
Exterior Style (IMO)
Price

Fit > Yaris

More standard / optional features
Better interior design and more versatility
Larger Interior / more spacious interior
4 Doors

With the price being pretty close a fully equipped yaris and an average fit my main concerns is:

1) does the FIT have optional cruise control?
2) does the FIT go over EPA estimated MPG more often than not?
3) can you fold the front seats flat (foward ) so they are level with the reat seats?
4) is there actually a lot more space in a fit than a yaris?

if anyone has the dimensions of the fit in utility mode, specifically the length from behind the front seats to the hatch door in utility mode it would be greatly appreciated. tow estimates and payload estimates also helpful

last of all,

08 Fit or 09 Fit

1) does the FIT have optional cruise control?
Not optional, but the sport somes stadard with cruise.

2) does the FIT go over EPA estimated MPG more often than not?
Just check the EPA section in the forums. Most people ger 10 - 20% over on the highway and 2 - 10% over on the street if you stay out of the throttle

3) can you fold the front seats flat (foward ) so they are level with the reat seats?
You fold the seat back, backward so they are flat with the rear seats in "Refresh Mode". I have put 6, 2x8 8foot boards on the passanger side with the hatch closed. Just put an old blanket down to protect the seats.

4) is there actually a lot more space in a fit than a yaris?
Much, Much more space than the 3 door yaris. You can actually take yourself and three others to the airport and carry all of the lugage in the hatch. In the Yaris you end up with 2 bags in the hatch and 2 on the back seat passengers laps. Trust me I have been one of the unluck in the back. If you get the new sedan yaris or 5 door yaris then you have about the same amount of room.

Off topic: The 9ers did very good last night. They beatup my Packers 6 -34

Just (2 wks ago) got our new Storm Gray Sport - BTW, that gray is not as dark as it looks on the dealer's paint chip list....lots lighter but still a very nice color especially when you add dark tinted windows. Am enjoying getting to know the car.....looking into getting a tow kit installed - the brackets only show when you're actually towing the car. I believe the Fit will fit ~/~ our needs poerfectly...great milage - 5 speed for towing all 4 down and with the weight under 3000 lbs..,..handles well and as it's breaking in the shifting is getting smoother...well, you know, new car and all. Takes a bit. Love the radio and in fact all the controls....easy to see and reach and I didn't have to read the manual to understand how to turn on the radio..... well, you know what mean. Anyway, I think we're going to be very pleased with it.

The '08s are mostly gone. You need to wait for the '09, but you might be able to test drive an '08 and get a feel for the car. They are pretty scarce, though, so move fast if you want to do a test drive.

The '09s are being pre-ordered right now so you might have to wait a little while for yours.

Fuel economy the Yaris as an automatic does get smashingly good mileage. I don't know much about the Yaris manuals, but the Fit gets extraordinary mileage as a manual, so if you can drive stick, the argument of fuel economy may be ruled out. :b

Exterior of the Yaris looks better than the Fit!? Blasphemy!

Can't argue with how cheap the Yaris is, though. My friend got a Yaris sedan brand new for 8000 (well he kinda had connections but still)!

The fit gets better mpg than they are rated at. They look good and are priced good. I would get the fit if u want a great DD. The sport has cruise control which i use alot love it. Now if u want something that has a little power don't look at the fit. But from ur post it sounds like u just want something that won't break down cheap on gas and a nice car. That is the FIT its nice interior, exterior, great on gas, good on insurance,4 doors, plenty of room for things. They are starting to go up in price though. I payed for my MT sport 18,300 OTD about a month ago now. But it was woth it to me. I save around $250 a month on gas easy now. Insurance is cheaper. And its a honda it will last me a long time

Love my Fit !

I have almost 3,500 miles on my 08 Sport Fit Nighthawk Black. I looked at the Yaris and I could live with it but my wife thought they were too small The Fit has so much more room to carry stuff and it's a Honda !

Next to put a dual band VHF/UHF amateur radio in the Fit!

It's not just a car, it's a Honda!

Buy the Fit if for no other reason than the versatility....we've put everything from 7' tall (or, I guess, long once in the Fit) Ikea mirrors to a 50" LCD TV to an Ikea Malm dresser (the tall one) in it and still had room for me and my wife.

Me thinks Yaris can no do.

if you're going for fuel economy and AT on a honda, go for a
used 06 civic (or newer).

i was easily getting high 30mpg's without trying on the civic ex
i had before my FitS. (sold it because im not much of a AT guy)

im not really into mpg as long as i can get over 30mpg on these
commuters im happy.
