I live in the us and im decideing my next car purchase. Will the fit be available with side airbags for the us market? What about head airbags? I am hoping it will be similar to the new civic in these departments. If it has these I might wait for it.

 

They say that the current fit cannot be safely fitted with side airbags. When the design is revised the vehicle will be wider supporting them and raising the safety rating to the highest obtainable. This will not be happening prior to the cars release in the states.

Have a look at the crash test data and crash test videos posted on this forum for the Fit.

 

I have not heard if side air bags are available in the U.S. model yet - we'll know for sure after the release on the 8th.

 

Actually, I think you're referring to side curtain airbags. Door-mounted side airbags are available on JDM Fits and it's likely they will be standard on the US version.

 

Thanks for the info guys. Is the side airbag that is availanble just provide protection for the torso or also the head? Does anyone have a picture of it inflated?

 

Side airbags do not protect the head.

 

UK models have side airbags, I think they're built into the seats but I could be wrong.
