2009 Fit - Gas tank size > 10.6 gallons?
^ There's a downside to filling up when your tank's not near empty: your mileage calculations can be significantly off if the pump shuts off even a second early or late. I filled up once when my tank was 3/4 full, and my calculated mileage was the second-worst I'd ever gotten. If the pump had shut off just half a litre earlier, it would have put the figure above my 5-tank average at the time.
Is the OP "topping off" the gas tank? Squeezing and releasing the pump lever after it automatically stops fueling? This can result in you paying for gasoline that is fed back into the station’s tank because your gas tank IS full. The gas station pumps are equipped with vapor recovery systems that feed back gas vapors into their tanks to prevent the vapors from escaping into the air.
I let my '09 run for about 35 miles after the light came on. When I filled it the pump clicked off at 10.4 Gals, I was then able to put in a bit more for a total of 11.5 gals.
I'll probably do the same thing again in a few tanks to see if this repeats itself.

Hey bro. We just got our '09 fit sport. I ran the tank EMPTY. I know your not supposed to do that, but we were on a road trip and almost to a preferred gas station. Anyway, it only took 9.8 gallons. So, your over 11 gallons seems like the pump may have been off or something. I don't know...just thought I'd share my story that happened just tonight.

That's crap because keep filling it and see if it doesn't spill back out onto the ground, the side of your car, and all over your hand.
I fill to the first click, shake the car and pause a few seconds and then continue. From the first click of the pump to I get her topped off I have put in another 1.7 to 2 gallons.

Thankfully, not all States require those California-style vapor recovery nozzles. They sure are a nuisance when filling a bike (the nozzles, not Californians)!
I just might give the Fit a little shake next fillup.
