Red face FIT vs. ??????

Hi,

Here's the deal. I've been a 2dr civic ex girl for SEVERAL years. After having my son 2 years ago I switched to the ex sedan for car seat purposes.

Now, I need more space in the trunk and a change thus my search for something along the lines of the Fit, the Matrix, and the Rabbit. If you current "Fits" have ever driven the Matrix and Rabbit before my question is do any of you have a kid or 2 and what has been your experience should I just break down and go for an SUV. I have major issues with gas usage and thus have always tried to have fuel-efficient cars not only for keeping costs down but also to minimize eco-impact. But, I just got married and plan to have more kids in the next 5 years.

Thanks for listening, hope the post isn't too much!

Regards,

M

dont have a kid yet but I can say that I drove the rabbit and the matrix. All I can say is that it pretty much boils down to taste. The fit is my favorite of the bunch but that 09 matrix is really nice as well. Space wise for the kid, the fit and the matrix have more room than the rabbit. The rabbit is a little smoother ride though. You really just have to do a few test drives.

I think the fit would be good for u but i really like the rabits. Don't get a SUV there is no need for those these days. I can fit any thing in my FIT that u could in a SUV. Or the Gti they just have nicer interiors and better looking to me. But cost more than the fit to

i totally agree with that. Give me anything to put inside my fit that you could put in an suv and it would fit with no problem. Now, towing is a different story...

This is great!!

Thanks for the posts! I've tested the Rabbit and have driven the Fit and though it has a ton of room, the interior of the Rabbit seems nicer. Also, the Rabbit drives really really well, then again it does have 5 cylinders.

So you have no complaints about the relatively lower "GO" on the Fit. I felt it a bit sluggish when compared but the salesperson fit in the back really well and the cargo area again, awesome.

The other thing is that there is still that VW argument about them being good cars, I know that they have really come a long way but that reputation is hard to shake.

Finally, I am seeing little to no love for the Matrix, thoughts?

this fit is by no means fast, but its a quick little thing and and fun as hell to drive, your not gonna win any drag races, but its got more than enough power to keep up with traffic!

The Matrix was my low second choice. I don't like the visibility in that car - it has relatively large B pillars and a small rear window. The Fit has more zip and spunk and better finish in the interior. It drove better than the Corolla, IMO, although they share a platform.

The person who originally bought my Fit traded it in for a Mazda 5 - needed more room. If I was in my small-kids-tons-of-crap phase, I may also have gone for the Mazda 5 - it's a micro-van, like the Fit, but a little larger.

I think you need to drive all the cars and see which one you fall in love with, or which one seems the most practical to you and your lifestyle. Not a 10-minute drive either, but at least 1/2 hour with all the stuff you normally haul around, including your son.

My mechanics are not big fans of VW products. I've owned Hondas for the last 20 years with no problems. Though our 2 kids are grown, I could still envision the Fit working for a family of 4. It's just a fun car to drive. In the last month, I've been in/on various road conditions with our '09 AT Sport, and I've had no problems at all. My '02 Accord coupe has a V6, but because the Fit is a lighter car, it actually maneuvers better than a car with 200 hp. The '09 Matrix only got lukewarm reviews from the car experts whereas most raved about the Fit. US News and World Report ranked cars by their various classes. You can Google this to see how these vehicles stack up against others in their class. Good luck...

I have an '09 Fit AND an '09 Rabbit. The Rabbit is my husband's company car, and the Fit is my personal car. Although I do drive the Rabbit quite frequently, and we had it about 4 months before the Fit, so it was our "vacation" car during the summer. Here are my opinions...

The Rabbit is 2 doors, the Fit is 4 doors. You can get the Rabbit in 4 door, but it goes up a couple of grand. I *hate* 2 doors. I don't have kids, but I do have a black lab that's about the size of a kid, and he goes with us everywhere. I'm biased against 2 doors in general, but esp. with 2 doors the Fit feels MUCH MUCH roomier. Esp. when you're sleeping in the car because it started raining before you can set up a tent and your dog is panting in your face, I really wish I had the Fit That probably won't happen to you, and I don't know if the 4 door version would feel much better, but the Fit is way roomier.

The Rabbit is faster. It has more torque. It's quicker, and it has more "luxury" features. I like the heated seats. It just is. But I can tell that I can drive the Rabbit and the Fit back to back and not feel disapointed. I don't think you'll be drag racing with your kids in the backseat. The Fit gets me where I want to go plenty quick and I find it quite lively as a daily driver.

Of course, the Magic seats are super for versitility. I love being able to adjust them all sorts of ways.

Bonus comparison shot:

my FitS is outfitted with a child seat and booster seat. both of my kids
love the car when i motor them around town while going shopping.

there's plenty of room inside for both parents and kids, and the trunk
is big enough to carry our things. we do full grocery shopping in the FitS
with a fairly large cooler box in the summer time. no issues.

i use to have a 06 civic ex sedan and it was good too. the only thing
about that car as far as cargo space was it couldn't carry odd shaped
things. the main reason why i traded it in was for its AT.
