If the gas price drops down about 5-10 cents for some reason I try to top it off slow thinking I am going to beat the system and can get a few more mile while the price goes up and then jump in again when it goes down. At least it makes me feel better even if it doesn't add up. HA

Yes. I have even put 12 in, on occasion. But now, only 11, for consistency, ease of mental calculation, and because I don't like spending 8 minutes trying to cram 12 gallons in.

Most I have put in was 13.35 and I'm pretty sure if it was bone dry mine would hold 13.5

if I remember right its only a 10.4 gallon tank... I really doubt your topping it off with an extra 3 gallons

Personally I lock the trigger down on the fastest setting, when it clicks I'm done. It's always around 8.5 gallons (give a take half gallon) I put in it when I fill up. Its usually about 290 miles at that point (all city no highway)

i usually just do the first click at highest setting. might try to put it at a lower setting to see if i can really get more fuel into the tank.

I do it the pcs0snq way and fill it til I see it, with the nose of the car facing downhill if possible. It takes time but it's an extra 100 miles or so before the gauge even moves.

Fill your car up with sandbags and then compare your mileage.

I stop at the first click too, but not for the same reason as you.

More gas does mean more weight, but the impact on fuel economy is insignificant, if you're comparing the gas you have at the first click versus the extra 1 or 2 gallons to top it off.

1 gallon of gas is about 6.4 lbs (source). That's lighter than a typical laptop in its carrying bag, or a load a groceries. Unless you weigh very little and you've stripped your car of every unnecessary bit of weight--headrests, spare tire, emergency kit, etc--that just isn't going to matter much on a 2500-lb car.

Smile filling tank

I am now filling slowly on first notch and wait about 10 seconds and go to second click on slow. I have stopped watching the MPG so much now as I am just enjoying driving my Fit Sport and will punch it as I want. ( gas is $1.90 here now. )

First click. I don't like gas spewing out all over the side of the car and onto the ground. The extra drops of gas for a second click isn't worth it to me.

I always try to top at least 2 gal more because I don't want to go to the gas station so much lol, that's at least 70 miles+ for me.

Well, it finally happened -- I tried 'hyperfilling' my Fit. I was just below 1/4 tank and got 10.4 gallons in. I ran it automatically to the first click, then pulled the handle gently and "burped" in another 2 gallons. I got bored and did not wait until it came to the top of the filler neck, but I did keep going until the "burps" were pretty small.

No ill side effects whatsoever so far. Best benefit by far is that I go much, much further between fillups; at 150 miles+ per day, that matters to me very much.

gas fill up

For WDB : I filled mine recently with the 89 octane I usually use ($1.85 gallon) with about 5 gallons and shut it down and put in another 5 gallons of the 91 octane($1.90 gallon). I am curious to see if it makes any difference. I put on the SSI intake and Magnaflow Street Series muffler (louder than I really wanted) and I will see if it all together gives me more MPG or more seat boost. Problem is I enjoy the seat boost too much. HA

I filled mine up within 2 miles of the low fuel light coming on and was able to get 11.2 gallons in the tank and I could have keep going. It was cold outside.
