2007 Honda Fit Specifications for North America

bsgump makes a good point - 92 Civic got 42city/48hiway mpg with a 1.5l 4cyl.
for me, fuel economy and reliability are most important. I was pretty disappointed to learn about the mileage numbers. Dated styling, mediocre gas mileage, I'll be looking elsewhere this spring. Maybe I'll get a used 92 Civic!

the reason for the less mpg is because of the gearing...get a jdm/edm tranny if you want better gas mileage with the 1.5 instead of the 1.3...
if any civic got 42/48 it would have been the vx which was dog slow and gearing was so high you would need to drop to 3rd gear to pass on the highway/go up big hills...the fit also weighes in 300 lbs more, has room for 4 adults and many options that a base model civic doesnt have...if you are going to compare cars, compare cars that are in the same category...

Question about mileage
I'm not going to complain about the mileage issue for the U.S. model. I'm currently driving a 2003 Chevy Cavalier that gets about 25 in the city, so this Fit will be a big improvement over that. I do have one question though. Why is it that the 1.5 liter Japan/EU version gets 48/mpg highway whereas the U.S. model only does 38/mpg highway. Could someone please explain this?

The 1.5L idsi, 1.4L-1.3L idsi and 1.2L idsi gives better economy and alot of people are confusing these figures with the 1.5L VTEC figures. The VTEC is not sold in alot of countries including Europe (EU).
So the US milage is exactly the same as everywhere else for the 1.5L VTEC engine despite increased weight from better safety features and a different automatic transmission. With the extra weight the US fit actually has better fuel economy than the VTEC sold everywhere else in the world!
